Utah pre-season, Walker and Giddens 16 each

Post#1 » by Dave_From_NB » Sun Nov 23, 2008 3:33 pm

A really short pre-season (1 game) for NBADL, Walker and Giddens got off to a nice start with 16 points each.

It's nice that Utah won,

and that the two Celtic kids got on the board,

but neither one can dribble anywhere near as well as Tony Allen,
who can play occasional point guard,

or shoot worth a lick.

So, if they get putbacks, alley oops and overpower the
itty bitty D-Leagues wings (or just outquick them),

it means squat for what either guy might do in the NBA.

Keep an eye on their free throw % (wreaked when sent down),
3 point % (non-existent),
and whether either one ever learns to hit a pull up or perimeter jump shot.

Jammer, of course they have lots to work on. But the reason for having a Development League in the first place is to be able to send guys like this there to develop their skills. All they were doing in Boston was getting practice on deciding what tie goes with what suit.

I've got to think the DL is a step up from a lot of the college competition they were playing against, it's just part of the process of developing second round picks.

Thanks for postings this, Dave_From_NB. I couldn't find much about the game. I knew that Walker socred 16 and that Utah won, but I didn't know what Giddens scored. They still don't have the box score up.

Don't like stats, but look
walker hit 1-2 from 3pt land. He also 7-7 FTs, which means he was agressive. the bad is 3TO.
Giddens, 2-2 from 3pt land and 3 assists.

I like these numbers.
NFL fans are now feeling what NBA fans been living for a while...

Giddens had a pretty good all around game with 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal. Both shot well from the floor, the line, and from 3.

I'm not a big fan of stats (by themselves) either, but that's all we've got so far. :) Once the season starts the games will all be streamed free so we can watch and actually *see* how JR and Bill are doing.

I don't mind 3 TO's for Walker, it just depends on why he had the TO's...so I looked at the Play-By-Play:

Walker Turnover:Bad Pass (1 TO) Steal:Tatum (1 ST) 11:32 4th
Walker Turnover:Offensive Foul (2 TO) 9:12 4th
Walker Turnover:Bad Pass (3 TO) Steal:Ambres (1 ST) 8:06 4th

All the turnovers were in the 4th quarter after his team was up by 20+ points, two bad passes and an offensive foul (probably a drive to the basket), so I'm tempted to just discount them.

I can't say for sure from the stats and play-by-play, but it looks like JR and Bill did a good job defensively on their men. The other team's SG's were a combined 4 for 20 and SF's were a combined 3 of 14. I really didn't try to figure out who, exactly, was in the game when our guys were in, but I'd say all the Flash Wings had good defensive games....or all the Stampede Wings had monumentally bad games.

Surprised that Walker only had 3 rebounds in 30 minutes. He always goes after them like an animal in the minutes I've seen him play.
I'm just sayin' is all...
