It might be that you actually see Thibodeau running the defense during the game as well.
It also might be that we are running the same style defense that Thibodeau ran in HOU for the past 3 years.
It might also be that we are getting similar results that they do.
Either one of those three things could of played a role in seeing Doc not getting credit for the C's defense.
Really it's a no brainer why Doc isn't viewed as a great Xs and Os coach. He is however the only coach that would let Tom Thib's run his defense, be as great at PR as he is, let Ainge go through the years of rebuilding and not fight personal decisions, as well as step aside and let his player plays and even make all the decisions.
Hell just today, he told Pierce and Rondo to sub in the game. Pierce went back and said, nope they bench is on a run me and Rondo are sitting back down.. Doc's reply.. oh okay Pierce thanks, whatever you think is a good coaching move feel free to do it.
Another example, end of the game against NJ a couple years ago.. after a timeout Doc called his one and only timeout play 'Give ball to Pierce, get out of way'. Pierce told AL and this is a quote from the gamethread by AL's friend we all know who used to post on there "**** Doc, I'm getting the ball to you so be ready". And what did Pierce do? What he wanted. AL procceeded to make a game winning layup after his man fronted him and Pierce threw a lob pass to him.
And ONLY Doc, I mean ONLY Doc would you not see a fit or a scolding of his players on something like that (PGs aside). Hell I honestly think Doc was man enough to think, well that was a good play and that's what I wanted. I'll talk to the team in practice to see if the team thinks we should run that play in games more often. Sadly, AL was traded too soon to see if that would be the case.
But only Doc would ever give close to this much control up to his players, assistants hired 2 weeks ago, or personal decisions of the GM without any complaints. Because it is Doc's reputation on the line, and it should just be accepted he's not actually making the decisions a head coach makes. Other people are, for him.

coz he's black?? of course not. He doesn't get respect because he's not the reason you guys won the championship. It's because of the Big 3 & Tom Thibedeau (sp?).

this is just bizarre to me. Why would those guys be better than Doc? Doc who has been a COY (which was outside of last year), has won a title, and has done a great job with player development. Yet somehow these guys who haven't won squat or done squat are better than Doc. wtf?!?
i think some people just can't admit they were wrong. they got so caught up in the doc sucks bandwagon that now they can't step away. now it's down to all the excuses: oh, it's all Thib. oh, it's all KG. oh, Pierce just suddenly grew up. oh, a blind (Please Use More Appropriate Word) could win with the Big 3. doc still can't do x's and o's. doc might deserve a bit of credit but he really just lucked into this situation. blah blah.
face it, you were wrong. all along, Doc was doing exactly what the franchise needed him to do. sure, he wasn't perfect, nobody is, but i can't really think of any other coach i'd rather have in the last 4+ years.
this is a great post

Agreed, it hits it on the head.
This is the same response I would give to those who hated on the C's last year saying we wouldn't win because the Big 3 would fight with each other, our bench sucked, Doc sucked, our PG sucked, our center sucked, etc...and were proven tremendously wrong last season.
It's still 17 to 11!!!!
