OT: Sheed-Doc-KG Connection
It's no secret.. Sheed and KG are really really close. And Sheed and Doc love each other. It's pretty obvious.
Even just with the last game against Detroit at home. Sheed hugged and embraced Doc at the start, and at the end of an embarrassing loss when every other Piston looked the other way and headed out, Sheed walked ALL the way from the end of the Piston bench to the other side (not even Coach Curry did this) to greet and hug Doc Rivers 'again'. And share some words (people left in the Garden stands were remarking about this.. it was marvelous.. you would have expected this from maybe, Brand and Dunleavy, or Pierce and Obie).
Then, he greeted Perk briefly before embracing and catching up with Garnett for minutes
Danny Ainge said 3-4 years ago how much he likes Sheed, and some people would agree that he did in fact try to trade for him twice. Sheed has a lot of respect for Doc. And Sheed and KG want to play together.
Sheed will be in green next year.
Second point: we all (should) know (or be aware) of how much respect Iverson has for the Celtic organization and past, and especially for Ainge and Rivers and Wyc, after how they courted and went after him two summers ago.
AI has already talked about how fun it would be to play with the Big 3.
is there any conceivable way that both Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson could be wearing Celtic green next season? With a KG-Perk-Sheed big man rotation (along with Powe, Davis or whoever), and Iverson off the bench scoring, we would be maintaining our position at the summit.
Could the Celtics get them both next season? Does it work with our MLE? Would Sheed ever take the vet's minimum (or AI) to get a title here?

Rasheed's a free agent after this year and everyone with cap space is aiming at 2010 (including Detroit) so Rasheed might have to sign for cheap for a season somewhere.
Could be.

What a wonderful scenario if it ever unraveled that way. We bolster oursleves while ripping the heart out of our main Eastern Conf. competitor. After making those moves that would allow us to trade a bench pupu platter for a 2/3/4 swingman(CapnJack for instance)

Our front court would be amazing if we got Sheed and I could care less about AI unless he can put his ego aside.

Not to burst your bubble but if DET wants to wait till '10 to use its cap space it can just sign AI and Sheed to one year extensions.
Either way I don't think there is any chance either of these guys are signing for under 10 figures. While old Sheed is still one of the most productive big men in the game and AI is still AI. At worst they would be full MLE signings. Look what Posey got.

Sheed is the most likely FA target next summer. While he's still very productive I don't see anybody giving him more than the mid-level at this point in his career. The only real threat I see to us getting Sheed is Cleveland, which may be able to offer him more minutes and a starting spot.

If the C's add RaSheed Wallace in the offseason it would be great indeed. Frankly I think he'd fit like a freakin glove personality wise. We'd have the meanest, deepest, most trash talkin ISH frontcourt in the league with out a doubt. I'd love to see that.
I'm not high on AI though, frankly I'd much rather pass on him.

By ten figures I'm guessing you mean ten million, because ten figures would be $1,000,000,000 (one billion dollars).
Anyways, I could see Sheed maybe coming here for the MLE for a year. He just seems like the kind of person that might do that, still unlikely though. AI, while a great player, wouldn't be the right fit for his skill here and would probably be much less likely to sign here for cheap anyways. All the talk of him wanting to play several more years (I think he said six?) points to him wanting to get one more big contract.

I know that Garnett and Wallace are from the same draft class, 1995.
I'll like to see it happen: A front court of a Garnett and (Rasheed) Wallace and Pierce to boot. That's scary! Even if he doesn't start... Because I'd read he dislikes playing center. Having him come off the bench behind Garnett or Perkins is no different if he's getting viable minutes. But, I don't know... I've to figure Dumars' thinking what Ainge's thinking... So, he could attempt to trade him out of the eastern conference and hope that that team can sign him to an extension.

For those of you who don’t know, Rasheed Wallace sort of has a reputation within the NBA for being volatile. He’s bold, blunt and always quick to speak his mind, even to the detriment of his standing with game-time referees and other players. Late last year he was criticized for stating that the NBA was no longer like a sport, but rather more like the World Wrestling Federation: fake and just for money and entertainment. After game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals this year, Rasheed was fined $25,000 for a profanity laced tirade in response to a question about flopping. He’s regularly led the the NBA in technical fouls and still maintains the league record for 41 of them set during the 2000 - 2001 season. That said, few would argue against the fact that he’s also one of the best players in the sport of basketball today and maintains a viciously effective defense, in addition to an incredibly powerful offense. It was tough to predict what he’d be like today, that was assuming he even showed up.
The setting was intimately small considering the huge celebrity of Rasheed Wallace. The entire crowd packed into Snyx remained completely silent as Rasheed spoke. About a hundred or so kids stood or sat in a semi-circle around Rasheed backed by a ring of camera men, photographers and other media as he explained, “You know people say I got an attitude problem… People think that I’m the same way off the court that I am on the court and that’s not true. On the court, I’m at work. When you’re at work or at school, you don’t want people bothering you. You’re at work. You got a job to do.” and continued talking directly to the kids around him as they hung on his every word. Rasheed spoke passionately about his humble roots playing basketball in the streets of Philly and stated that growing up wearing Air Force 1’s when he played blacktop basketball as a kid was why he’d always remain loyal to that shoe as an NBA pro. He continued on to explain, “You know, I’m a regular person just like everybody else. I go out and do groceries just like everybody. When I’m home I cook dinner.” and reiterated to the kids that he grew up in a neighborhood just like theirs. When asked by a kid in the crowd what his biggest weakness was, Rasheed responded, “My mouth is my greatest weakness.”, and with a smirk, he added, “It’s also my greatest strength.” Later, when asked by another kid what was most important for becoming successful Rasheed stressed the importance of college. Once he was pressed by the kids for tips on how to make it to the NBA, Rasheed emphasized determination and a LOT of time at the gym.

Re: OT: Sheed-Doc-KG Connection
From a talent standpoint it would be OK, although Rasheed disappears quite often on offense and doesn't play **** for D. I'd rather have Tayshaun Prince from Detroit, honestly.
From a team chemistry standpoint he'd be horrible, though...

Re: OT: Sheed-Doc-KG Connection
I REALLY like the idea of Sheed coming to the C's next year on a reasonable contract. I think a season with KG will get the fire back that I see he's missing just about every time we play the Pistons. He'd be energized to get a title and can be one of the best players in the league when he wants to be. The good relationship with Doc is also another good sign, as he'd be more willing to be part of our team first philosophy.
I'm not as big on AI, since he's likes to have the ball in his hands so much. He would disrupt our offensive flow and IMO wouldn't be as effective on D as Rondo.
But good post and I like the well thought-out ideas you threw out there. I don't know if Sheed would be interested in playing on the cheap, but it sure would look nice with a KG-Sheed-Perk-whoever frontline rotation. I don't think KG and Sheed could play a lot together since they have similar outside-in styles, but we wouldn't suffer much of a dropoff when KG is on the bench.
