We should add Marbury...

Post#1 » by redoctober9 » Sat Nov 29, 2008 10:30 am

Hey fellow avid and fanatical lakers fans, I do have some proposal for Mitch and Phil to think of. What if we sign step marbury for just one season? we did got a headcase and a ballhog in ISAIAH JR RIDER right? so having step on our side will be no big adjustments for us and I bet Phil can handle him more than he had handled the likes of Dennis, JR, John Salley and many more. Having step with us give us an assurance should derek fisher meets an injury (god forbids no pls) step is a prototype point guard who has a scoring mentality which we needed come play off time. I bet Kobe would love to have step with us how about it?

The OP is right about Phil Jackson dealing with Headcases before but at the sametime I woudn't want the Lakers to take the risk. Atleast not now, Not this season. If LA were to win it all this year and Steph was avaible in free agency during the off season the yes, I'd possibly bring him in as a back up 2 for Kobe. Nothing more

We're trying to win. Why would we add a career loser?

The way our point guards are playing (defensively).. I don't think it would hurt adding another guard in, just to see if they can fair a little better. Marbury has never been a defensive player.. but that's how bad Fisher and Farmar's inability to defend is hurting us right now.

That said, I would pass. Our team chemistry is too good right now.

If we want to add a defenivse PG then call the thunder to see if Earl Watson is available, and he has a shorter contract to boot.

It's accurate that Phil Jackson can work with headcases, that is, certain headcases that have the hidden desire to do what it takes to win a title no matter what.

Dennis Rodman gave up his body for the Pistons every time on defense. He later did the same thing for the Bulls. The key is that Dennis could respect MJ as well as the rest of the team and had the desire to give up any personal stats for the benefit of the team. Winning cures everything sometimes, and that's a big reason for why Dennis had success with the Bulls.

As is, this team's cohesive nature is great in the locker room as well as on the court.

We're not talking about a guy who's willing to humble himself enough to be a team player and give up everything to win a title. This is a guy who has had a bad breakup with every team he's gone to. D'Antoni asked all the Knicks players with the exception of Stephon what he was like and if they wanted him on the team. It was an overwhelming "no". That's the Knicks we're talking about.

I'm all for taking risks but Stephon thinks that he's a top 5 guard in this league and believes that he's worth the 20 million a year. No thank you.

We don't need Marbury. Desperate teams or teams with a massive void at their point guard position should go after Marbury, not teams who are playing like legit contenders and have excellent point guards for the system the team plays. Marbury wouldn't be giving us any veteran leadership (he's not a very good leader), mental toughness, physical toughness, a teacher for our young guards, a good locker-room presense, or much anything that contributes to team unity on offense or defense. He'd be giving us a VERY talented player with his head screwed on wrong. It would be completely unnecesary.

Like he's gonna get any time with Fish and Farmar on this team.

Man a lot of you were a bit scared of Stephon Marbury, some says hes cancer to a team while others says why disrupt the team chemistry if we get starbury. All of you guys are looking at the negative side of stephon. The side that the media are always feasting on him. Marbury being starbury, Marbury the ballhog, Marbury the one man show, Marbury doesnt want to play. But hey did that ever happened also to ISAIAH "JR" RIDER? Rider did that when he was still with Atlanta thats why he was waylaid but Phil took notice of that and he was able to make JR a good complimentary player purge under his influence and limits. Stephon was basically misguided and misunderstood. Heck Mike D'Antoni did jump on the gun because he was being influence by reports not looking deep inside on how much stephon can help on his team. If we let this opportunity slips our grasps maybe the Celtics would pick Stephon and man what a combo will be with him and KG reunited. That would impose bigger chance for those hated celtics to peat. Give stephon a chance and i bet he wouldn't disrupt team chemistry just like rider did to us. Besides Phil still has a lot of Zen on his book....
