Ouch.
We've got 3 straight home games vs a struggling Jacksonville team, then vs the inconsistent Saints and Packers, then a game vs the Texans.
The Vikings play in Detroit vs a team that would have beat them if not for a questionable call, then in Arizona vs the explosive Cardinals, then vs a surprising Falcons team, and then against the best team in the NFL the Giants... who unfortunately will probably be resting their starters.
I think they go 2-2 in that stretch, which makes us have a must win vs the Packers so we can have a chance at having the tiebreaker over the Vikings..
It'll be tough. But we might be able to do it. Shoot me for being positive.
As for the game...
Orton looked bad. 2 of the picks were all on him. But another thing, our WRs really suck balls. After that nice catch and run by Hester and the 3rd down conversion to Lloyd, they did squat the rest of the game. Couldn't get open, dropped so many passes, all in all just sucked massively. What was it, 6-7 drops on passes that were at LEAST catchable balls... some of them were perfect throws or near perfect throws...
Jared Allen was just dominating St. Clair. His 3 sacks really looked like the easiest 3 sacks I've ever seen, it was as though no one was blocking him at all. He just ran right past St. Clair each time. I like St. Clair and he HAS been playing GREAT and much better then anyone expected him to, but that was brutal.
Defense sucked. At first it looked like they were gonna show up with a couple big sacks, but then they took a break the rest of the way. Couldn't stop the run, gave up a 99 yard pass play, allowed quite a few 3rd down conversions...
As to.. the lone positive... once more. Forte. As always. 120+ yfs, over 1000 rushing yards on the year, 1350+ yfs on the year, and 10 total TDs.

Re: Ouch.
Is Chris Williams going to play this year or is this just another one of Angelo's wonderful 1st round picks?

Again... THIS IS WHERE THOSE #@$%ING CHOKES KILL US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT THE TIME I KNEW I'D BE SAYING THIS LATER IN THE YEAR!!!!!
We win 2 of those games, and we're sitting at 8-4 right now. Its tough to think about.

Re: Ouch.
This season isn't over just yet, but leave it to the Bears to make it as difficult as possible. This loss pretty much ended Green Bay's season, though.
You're right, CBS7, all those stupid gags in the first half of the season are huge, as we all knew they would be. Atlanta, Carolina, Tampa Bay all could have, should have been wins. They'd be at 9-3 right now and have a stranglehold on this division. Instead, they're 6-6 and need help.

At least we have 3 home games left. Feels like we've played 10 road games so far.

Re: Ouch.
- I'll say it. Orton doesn't look the same since getting injured.
- Hester hurt as much as he helped this game. Going east/west or backwards on punts and a couple missed catches.
- St. Clair. Oof.
- Vikings cheerleaders have the worst outfits in football.
- I still can't figure out what happened on that non-roughing call of Ogunleye. Am I the only one that thought he barely touched him? Flop city.
- Emperor, how you feelin' ? You see 4 wins in a row to close out the season ? JAX, NO, GB, @HOU.

I felt the same way when I saw it. Then I read people's reactions and thought maybe the slow motion didn't do the hit justice.

Re: Ouch.
horrible game... KO did something a lot of us didn't expect, throw 3 picks. Buddy Bob did what a lot of us expected, give up a lot of points with a horrible defensive scheme. Ditto with Ron Turner and his stupidity was shown/confirmed when he had GARRETT WOLFE run up the middle against one of the strongest runD's in the game.
Question of the week...
How many more games like this and GB until the whole city cracks on Orton?

Re: Ouch.
The Bears should have never lost their original lead. Their defense was sharp early on and Forte actually was able to be productive against the Minnesota defensive line. Kyle did not play well and the receivers were terrible. Turner/Lovie were stupid with their draw plays on 3rd down and going for it on 4th down near the goal line. It would have been 10-3 Bears with Minnesota on offense on their own near 20 where the Bears probably would have fared better.

Re: Ouch.
To me, it looked blatantly obvious that a flag should have been thrown on Ogunleye's hit on Frerotte. Even if it was unintentional, even if it wasn't a big hit, even if Frerotte acted a little, a flag still should have been thrown.
Bears dodged a bullet, but took many more as the night went on

Re: Ouch.
On that game changing series of events I thought we should have kicked the FG... I also thought we should have ran it up the middle with Forte 3 times. I mean, come on, he got it all the way down there, he could pick up another yard in 3 tries...

Re: Ouch.
Problem is that we've sucked it up against our division rivals - except for Detroit who everyone has stomped on. We used to at least take care of business vs. the NFC North, but this year we've sucked - and that will cost us getting into the playoffs. But if Orton takes a Grossman turn, we're D.O.A. anyway.
2024: Maybe there's some hope?

Re: Ouch.
Orton didn't look as bad as many people think, ICLO. He put a lot of balls right on his receivers' hands only for them to be dropped. Hester had 2, Davis had 2 or 3, Olsen had one, Peterson had one. ICLO, after that and falling behind a little, he tried to force it a bit too much and he got picked off.
Cliff Levingston doesn't even have much of a problem with the defensive gameplan either. We stacked the line to try to stop Peterson. Take away that big run in the first half and we did a moderately good job at keeping him in check considering he's the best running back in football. It was just another one of those familiar games where the offense can't sustain a drive and leaves the defense hung out to dry against a good team on the road.
Cliff Levingston did have a big problem with Ron Turner. How often do you need to run into the Williams wall before you figure out that it won't work. Forte busted a nice run up the middle when we had out backs against the goal line, but that was it. We needed to try to run off tackle more often with a few more pitches. Give a lot of credit to the Vikings defense though cause they came to play; especially Allen.
So yea, Cliff Levingston still isn't that worried. This is just a decent team, so while the losing sucks, it's to be expected sometimes. We've got 3 out of 4 games left at home against a mostly average/mediocre schedule so we still have a decent shot at winning the division.

Re: Ouch.
The drops by Hester, Davis, and Peterson were bad to be sure. All could've been big gains, too. The interceptions were of the brutal variety, though. Would be nice to see Neckbeard get back to his pre-injury form else the McNabb talk is going to heat back up in the offseason.
And I'm still not buying what Madden was raving about in the booth after the Ogunleye hit. I think the ref saw it and judged it like many of us did - a nudge and a flop. That may fly in the NBA but not here. No flag required.
My wife thinks I'm a genius when it's 3rd and long and I predict a draw play and it happens. Pretty soon she'll catch on that it's automatic with Turner at the helm.

It looked like incidental contact to Cliff Levingston. Ogunleye didn't seek him out, he was basically jogging out the play while Frerotte was backing up and they collided. No flag necessary.

Yeah, that's the thing that has me scratching my head. If he flopped, you'd figure he'd see that the flag wasn't thrown then get up. I still just can't see how he went down like a sack of potatoes after incidental contact like that. Maybe he's that good of an actor ? Certainly showed no ill effects afterward. In fact, Gus looked better. He should thank Adewale.
