WIll this man ever play basketballl for the Hawks? Id love to have him on my bench or hed be a nice player in a trade package!
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

I'm pretty sure the Hawks would probably prefer that he retires. If he just steps away then insurance picks up his contract and he doesn't count against the Hawks cap next season.

If Speedy can't get back onto the floor this year I'd imagine he retires.

He clearly wants to play and has been working really hard. But I don't know if his body will allow him to get back on the court.

The sad part is that the hawks would be a significantly better team with him playing. Against teams with that quick penetrating PG Speedy would be an ideal guy to bring off of the bench.

Its just going to be interesting- by all accounts he wants to play. But the Hawks have serious financial interest to make sure he doesn't play at all.

At this point even if he came back I'd be expecting him to break down at any moment so he could only be carried as a luxury (you'd have to keep as many PGs on the roster just in case). The skill set is needed (Acie penetrates, but not with much consistency). There are some young PGs in the draft next year with this specific skill set. If a credible big isn't available (always our top need it seems) then I would love to land a Mills, Maynor, Lawson type to develop and contribute off the bench.

The problem is that if he does come back, there is little indication that he would have the speed and lateral quickness that made him into a solid defender. With both knees injured and having chronic, degenerative conditions, I can't imagine that he would be nearly as effective as he was with the Hornets.

FWIW, the dude should just retire. His knees just aren't going to allow him to play.
