The TT hate is at an all time high

Post#1 » by zmanishere11 » Mon Dec 1, 2008 11:51 pm

And I just don't get it. Seems like everything that has gone wrong this season is blamed on him.

I would consider myself a rational Packers fan, and here's a rational thought I think everyone should consider:

Maybe our problems with our front 7 have something to do with a severe regression in the actual players we have, as opposed to TT.

2 examples:

1st, Ryan Pickett and Johnny Jolly were difference makers last year, don't forget that. These guy were shooting gaps, making plays against the running game, and even once in a while pressured the QB. That is GONE this year. Pickett showed up overweight and Jolly has his legal issues.

Now, if your answer to this problem is Corey Williams and his .5 sacks this year (and huge salary), you are clearly wrong. TT sold high - aka, he doesn't get a 2nd round pick for him this off-season. Cole is still Cole, and it's not TT's fault Harrell showed up to camp out of shape and then got injured, it's Justin Harrell's (the kid has all the talent in the world, lets not give up on him yet).

-Seems to me coaching and personal problems have more to do with the regression here

2nd, I want some blame laid on this LB core. Poppinga/Chillar/Barnett/Hawk, on paper, to any average fan or GM, should be one of the better LBing cores in the league, and they've been absolute TRASH this year. When was the last time you saw one of these guys make a big play???????? Constant miss-tackles, blown coverages, oh and TE's are STILL killing us every week!!!
-These issues come from poor coaching, not TT

But think about it, all of these guys got paid. Barnett got his deal, Poppinga (4 years 17 mil), and Hawk right out of college got 36 mil. We've got close to 100 million tied up in our LB core. They've got all the job security in the world, as it's not supposed or perceived to be a position of need, and we can't just ditch them with all the money we have tied up here. Where's the motivation to get better going to come from?
-This is clearly a personal issue with each individual player, something TT won't be able to solve

All I'm saying, is lets put the blame where it's supposed to be, for once this season, on the players and coaches.

I don't consider it "hate" to question him. This is his fourth year. And the third year we will have missed the playoffs. He's the head guy. He hires the coaches, drafts the players, makes trades and handles free agency. Of course he isn't to blame for everything that goes wrong. But he's the guy at the top. He gets the credit when things go well and blame when they don't. This isn't like criticizing John Hammond who's been on the job a few months. It's been four years. It's perfectly legitimate to scrutinize his moves. If you want to blame everyone but him for this season then we should praise everyone but him for last season. It works both ways.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Valid post. Though as MD I don't see accountabilty as hate.
Still I mostly agree and said some of this in other thread.

Play calling and penalties are not TTs fault.
Lack of innovation on D is not TT's fault.
Jolly, Pickett, LB crummy play is not TT's fault.
I guess ZBS is M3's decison & fault and that TT just went with his head coaches choice.

BUT -
Punter IS TT, M3 & Stock's fault.

OL IS TT's fault because those personnel issues started when he arrived and have made no progress.

Harrell IS TT's fault. He drafted an injured player. His decision to ignore it. Say what you want - when you have options at 16 and team needs success I don't start with Bad odds. Especially if you know you want to dump a rotation guy (CW).

We have a big discussion on Thompson going on in the other thread. I'm going to lock this up so we all don't start repeating things here. Zman, please copy and repost your initial post here on the other thread, you make some good points.
