NO VASELINE!!!
I said then and I will say it now. The Mavericks will rue the day they traded Devin Harris for Jason Kidd. And I don't even want to discuss the first round pick. Everytime I see this kid doing his thing, it kills me. True Maverick fans knew that he had this in him, but was being held back by Avery. But anyway, I wish him and you guys the best. I never saw myself rooting for the Nets, but as long as DH is there, I will always root for you.

In a weird way, I suppose we're in the same boat. I am a longtime Kidd fan, so I find myself rooting for the Nets and Mavericks now. But yeah, Cuban got owned.

Ditto. I know the Kidd situation here was stressful, but Kidd made this franchise respectable again. I am always checking his stats with Dallas.
But yeah, we made out like bandits. If that pick winds up a lottery pick too in 2010 or package it to land someone sick, yeah it could potentially be an absolute fleecing.
You guys started off shaky but are coming on strong now. Best of luck.

Why should any Nets fan continue to root for Jason Kidd? He:
- Flirted extensively with San Antonio the summer after we lost to them in the 2003 Finals.
- Played GM and failed miserably. See: Rodney Rogers, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutombo
- Led a team-wide mutiny to get Byron Scott ousted mid-season.
Rooting for him is akin to Raptors fans rooting for Vince.

Re: NO VASELINE!!!
He also came here and took a franchise that was barely alive and took them to 2 finals. Even if the East we weak in those years, if you took Kidd out of that lineup, there were very few pg's in the league that could have led that team to the finals. He made the Nets relevant for a handful of years. For that I'm grateful. He is like any star with a massive ego. Take the good with the bad.
Get your fact straight too. Kidd hated we didn't have a big man. He did not tell management "Get Alonzo Mourning or I'm signing with the Spurs." Management went out and got the best big name PF/C they could afford in hopes Kidd would resign. Also, Deke has been productive on every team he's ever played on...except us. You're blowing this acquisitions out of proportion making it sound like Kidd was like "sign this guy or I'm out."
You're really gonna cut the guy down for wanting a long term deal with a contender? Please use your head. "I'm Jason Kidd. The NBA Champions want to sign me to a deal that is pretty close to what the Nets can offer me." Who wouldn't want to play with TD in his prime. Using the Spurs in your argument is complete hogwash. Plenty of free agents talk to numerous teams. When the NBA Champions call you...you listen. It also allows you to gain a stronghold in negotiations with other teams. Brilliant move. End of story.
Only part of your argument that holds water is Byron Scott. The guy is a great coach. However, it's interesting to notice that they're kind of struggling in NO right now. Even Bill Simmons mentioned it in a blog the other day. I've watched 4 games this year and can kind of agree. Maybe a reason could be that players only buy into Scott's philosophy for a few years then grow tired of it. I don't know. At times Chris Paul, David West, and Tyson Chandler look disinterested right now. Only person they seem to look like they listen to is James Posey lol. If this could potentially turn out to be a trend with Scott, you can't really hold it against Kidd for quiting on him. Regardless, as of this moment though, it's a valid strike against Jason.
Bottom line, Jason Kidd turned this franchise around. There are also a lot of Raptor fans who are also Vince Carter fans for the same reason. The Raptors would never get that exposure in those years if Vince wasn't on their team. I know the whole Kidd thing is a grey area to people right now, but honestly, if you told me 8 years ago all this was going to happen...I still would have paused for a moment and looked at you and been like "So signing off on this trade gets Marbury off my team right? Where to I sign?"

The simple fact that he made the New Jersey Nets relevant outdoes any of those reasons not to continue to root for the guy. Then Prelude just blew the rest of your argument out of the water.
Rooting for him is akin to Raptors fans rooting for Vince.
So do you root for Vince even though he's been accused of "quitting on his former team"? If you're going to hate on Kidd, then do the same on VC (At least be consistent on this aspect). Go to the Raptors Board now and see how many of their poster appreciate him now and a good amount of their posters even want him back. The simple fact that he made NBA in Canada relevant is one of their biggest reasons not to dwell on the course of one season.
