The Carolina Hurricanes have fired head coach Peter Laviolette.

Reports also indicate that he is being replaced by former Carolina coach Paul Maurice, in a strange twist. Laviolette became the winningest American-born coach in NHL history this year with his 240th win. He guided the Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup championship in 2005-06.

Fired Maurice. Win Championship. Fire Laviolette. Hire Maurice.

I always find it amazing how much head coaches are recylcled in the pros. If person x couldnt win with team y, how are they going to win with team z? It happens so often, and the more these coaches are recycled, the more teams know how to scout for them.

Your telling me there wasnt a better option than the guy you fired 4 years ago, and who was fired by another team one year ago?? That is the absolute best option out there?

Nothing against Paul Maurice. . i actually like him a lot, more of a general statement.

Thank god this is one game we are not in. I found it weird as well that he was canned. The Cans are under achieving but he should be canned this quickly.

They should have at least given him a chance until Williams got back to playing healthy and see where the team was at. Oh well.
