I wish Sam nothing but the best, I still think he is a quality coach in this league. He brings a heart to the game that the best coaches have. He has a lot to learn but that's okay. There's a reason some of the best coaches are old, they've been doing this a long time. They've failed and learned he will too. He'll get a gig in this league whenever he wants in fact he might be the most in demand coach this summer.

He's a quality guy that brought the best out of players on this roster, guys like Chris and Jose were molded by him. He was blamed for the crap that is our roster but maybe now we can all see that this roster is not worth a dime. The fire is on BC, the scapegoat is gone so look in the mirror and get ready. You inherited the perfect situation, 2 young stars (Bosh and CV), a ton of capspace, solid role pieces and a #1 pick. You've so far done nothing great so step up.

I'd love to see Sam go to Indy, he could do wonders with that team and they have the kind of players he loves. He would also be really good in Washington and maybe even ATL who aren't totally in love with Woodson and its his home.

Sam used to talk down to the media (and therefore the fans, as far as I was concerned). He thought he knew more than everyone else. Maybe he did. But we knew enough to know he was over his head as a head coach.

Good riddance. I hope the players can shed Sam's bad habits as soon as possible.

What bad habits.. name a couple. Working hard, being accountable, learning that the NBA is a grind. The guy made a career out of nothing, all over the league guys will tell you what they learnt from him. Bosh and Jose became players under his tutelage, CV had a career year, many players left his system and reverted back to their old bad habits. Mike James, Rafer Alston, CV. Say what you want about his need to learn more x and o's but he made players better when they listened

Here is a list of recent NBA coach of the year winners and what has happened to them -

2006-07 - Sam Mitchell, Toronto - fired by the Raps Dec 3/08
2005-06 - Avery Johnson, Dallas - fired by the Mavs April 30/08
2004-05 - Mike D'Antoni, Phoenix - allowed to leave for New York
2003-04 - Hubie Brown, Memphis -resigned on Nov 25/04 due to "unexpected health-related issues"
2002-03 - Gregg Popovich, San Antonio - still there
2001-02 - Rick Carlisle, Detroit - fired after the 2002-03 season
2000-01 - Larry Brown, Philadelphia - he obviously likes to bounce around
1999-00 - Doc Rivers, Orlando - fired in 2003

Many a coach has said that they "are hired to be fired". It is a ongoing reality of professional sports.

Sam did a good job to a point. I personally don't think he was ever going to be the coach that could take us "over the top." Wish him well. As you can see above, he is in good company. I imagine he will find another job in the NBA at some point.

Smitch will one day win a Championship as a head coach, book it! The day he gets "his" GM, he will succeed like no one ever expected him to. Does he have his flaws? for sure. But he has proved over the years that he knows how to learn, survive and be successful in a league dominated by big names and glamour. I wish him the very best.

A star doesn't have to be tier 1 (LeBron) or 2 (Bosh) they can be significant pieces and I still believe that CV can and could be a significant piece on a team. Think a 6th man scorer like a Jason Terry in the post, could you imagine us with CV coming off the bench. He'd instantly be the playmaker on the bench even just rookie CV. He's got a lot to learn but he has talent

No, give us Steve Jack.

We don't need a garbage chucker like Jackson on the Raptors.

Jackson can't shoot, he can't lead, he can't play defense, he makes to much money, and he is 30 years old.

It's pretty obvious that you don't watch basketball. Steve Jack doesn't play defense? Did you miss the series where he shut down Dirk or something?

On the Raptors, we wouldn't need him to "chuck" like he does in Golden State either. The guy is EXACTLY what this team is missing. Though obviously I'd take a better scorer if that was possible, but that might be difficult.

Ok I'm pretty noob when it comes to stuff like this, so what happens now that mitchell is fired? Didn't we just sign him a multi-year contract, how does all the financial things work? Thanks

Bottom line: when BC brought in his nine new players two years ago we all marveled at how the whole was more than the sum of its parts. The players were so smart that we were winning, even though on paper our team wasn't great. Now, those same players are less than the sum of their parts. On paper, we are better than our record. Basically, our players knew how to play, but Sam screwed them all up. Sam had to go.
