Mavs team statistics
As of right now the Mavs is 3rd in the league in opponent FG% behind Cleveland and Boston. We're 1st in the league in opponent 3PT%. We're also fourth in rebounding. If this keeps up, I think we could be pretty good.

Re: Mavs team statistics
It won't stop idiots on realgm dissing most Mavericks as defensive players. I read all the time how Dirk is a lousy defender. How Terry can't guard anyone. How Howard is mediocre at best. So somehow with 3 of our top 4 players (players who play huge minutes) being bad defensively we somehow have managed to be a really good defensive team this year. I know Kidd is good defensively but he couldn't possibly be doing it alone. We have a lot of underated defenders on this team.
Another note: I have noticed how tough Kidd is defensively. I know we all felt that Devin Harris was a great defensive player but I just don't believe he is in the same class as Kidd. I guess the issue really is what kind of player they are defending. Harris could get overpowered by the Baron Davis type players and Kidd sometimes gets outquicked by the Chris Paul type players. While I think they are both good defenders I would have to put Kidd overall ahead of Harris on defense.

Actually, the Lakers are the only team averiging more RPG.
But we are #23 of turnover differential. That use to be one of our strengths.

I like the defensive numbers, but we're not far enough into the season where statistical anomoly is no longer a possibility. I don't think we're THAT good defensively. We are improved, though, IMO.
The other important note is differentials. Rebounding-wise, we're 8th in differential/rebounding percentage. I haven't checked the offense/defense ones, but I do know our offensive rankings are way down the line from our defensive ones. I'd like to think shooting percentages for Dirk and JET will go up as the season progresses.

True that. Although I think this season we are really taking care of the ball. We just don't force a lot of turnovers as we're not a gambling team on defense, plus we lost all those charges Harris used to took (I really miss that). With that being said, Kidd always manages to come up with big steals at the end of close games. I like that

Re: Mavs team statistics
this team seems to get it going. after the abysmal start they are now clicking on all cylinders. big reason for that is definitely the defense. remember the big leads the mavs blew in the 4th q in the first few games of the season? they didnt play defense back then

The Phoenix game has also been in the range of our defensive stats. 44% (37% 3pt), and outrebounded them 48-35
