STICKY!! Rivalries

Post#1 » by ws26 » Fri Dec 5, 2008 3:10 am

Hey, I'm gonna write an article on rivalries and I wanted some feedback.
I was hoping that you could give me a list of the team you would consider your rival, scale that rivalry 1-10, and your most hated player in the league (on any team).
Thanks.

Some people might disagree with me.

1. Hornets (they are in our conference and I hate them)
Scale: 10
2. Jazz (See playoffs last two years)
Scale: 10
3. Mavs (The most hated Texas team we play)
Scale: 10
4. Spurs
Scale: 10

Most hated player? Kobe Bryant

Come on guys..The Hornets have to be our top rival in the Southeast division. After the Spurs and Mavs get too old to compete, who are we going to compete with?

I don't consider the Hornets as a rival, well at least not yet. Rivalries go beyond one season and this team has had more history with Utah, Dallas and Spurs than the Hornets.

It's gonna take more than Rafer Alston to consider them a rival.

Oh, I was referring to the incident when Rafer Alston tried to take on the entire Hornets team. Obviously, it will take more than a player to create this rivalry.

You gotta have some respect for CP3.. but we can beat a fully healthy Hornets team with an injured Rockets team.

1. Jazz: 10
For their stealing games with cheap flops and filthy hecking and bashing and still getting away with it. For David Stern and the refs trying desperately to save the so called best home court crowd.Down with the Jazz, everytime we beat them I feel like going to any lowest party.
2. Spurs: 9
For floping master ginobili and parker. They are the on the top of the taking-advantage-of-rules chart. They are most dependent on the whistles.
3. Mavs: 9
I dont know, they used to have good offense, but they are in a slump right now. I guess Cuban is who made us all pissed about the Mavs, they stole a series from us. anybody who win by influencing the refs are on my hate list.
4. Celtics: 8
Oh believe me, we should absolutely hate them, and there will be some real rivalry showing up soon.

It's hard to have a true rivalry when we haven't won anything in 11 years, so the only one that comes remotely close is the Jazz, and even that has been one-sided the past couple of years, so...

I'd say our biggest rival is the injury bug and David Stern.
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

It's a rivalry based more on the combination of the city, their media and the team than just the team itself. Utah and Dallas have to be tops if their team isn't a doormat because their fans are terrible to contend with. If we were in the East and the Knicks weren't doormats, I'd throw them in there, but barring Celtics-Lakers (where you're always meeting in the finals), it's hard to have extraconference rivals. Hornets could possibly be our "biggest rivals" in a few years, but even then I still wouldn't call them a "rivalry". The latter tends to come more from bad blood and playoffs.

Did you mean Houston fans in general hate LeBron, or just you? I haven't met many people that hate LeBron, several that think he's overrated for whatever reason, but not that hate him.

Also Karl Malone gets legacy hatred points until 2014.

Mine is:
Utah: 10
Dallas: 9
Spurs: 7 or 8

Rockets don't really have any other true "rivals" imo.

I personally don't "hate" Princess Jamie but I really can't stand him, if that qualifies. To be fair though, I really can't name any players in the NBA I like anymore at all with the exception of a small few(Battier, Yao, Shaq because he's adorable, maybe a couple others).

BUT, let's be honest here, I mean, seriously....tits.

Oh, that's just me. I'm not a fan of drama queens (e.g.: Bryant) and attention whores (e.g.: LeBron).

Fair enough. LeBron's definitely an attention whore, though it does play well toward his goal of being the first athlete billionaire.

Shaq reminds me of me, if I was 350 lbs and funny. He should def. wear a pair of fuzzy bunny slippers and a bathrobe in for starting lineup announcements on his last game. Maybe even opening tip! He could then retreat to the sideline and start casually smoking a pipe.

Moofs you can add John Stockton to that Jazz legacy hate for me, and it will probably last til I die(assuming that ever happens).

Without question the Jazz are our biggest rivals. We played them in 94, 95, 97, 98, 07, and 08. The only other years we made the playoffs were in 99, 04, and 05.

Dallas is a distant second to me.

Nawlins doesn't really matter to me aside from the fact that they're in our division.

When it comes to San Antonio I find myself fighting the urge to cheer for the Spurs when they play the Rockets.

I would have said the Lakers years ago. They missed the Finals twice during the 80's and the Rockets were responsible both times.
