KCAL 9 in HD, how to with Antenna?

Post#1 » by shobe_81 » Fri Dec 5, 2008 6:58 pm

Hey fellas, Since dish doesn't provide KCAL 9 in High Definition, does anyone know how I can get it in HD through the Antenna? Sorry I'm not very good with this stuff

I'm tired of watching Lakers games in Standard with an HDTV :(

So I don't want something expensive, something that gets the job done,

I have a huge Antenna that was installed by the previous owner of the house on the roof, but someone told me I need to change from 300 to 75 Ohm, what's that and how to I do it?

Please guys my eyes are hurting, I need Kobe in HD... No homo :D

First you have to go to this website to see where your Digital TV is broadcasting in your local city. http://www.antennaweb.org It show you which direction your signal is coming from so you can point your antenna toward it. I had to point mines NorthEast. I live right behind a sound wall, so i had to raise my antenna a little higher. There are some pretty good indoor DTV antennas you can get that's quite cheap out there as well.

Read this article. Although quite long, it'll tell which antenna is good.. bad... etc.. that you can pickup.

Thanks man

I just went out earlier to Radioshack after my Post and bought a cheap $12 antenna under the Radioshack brand and another one under phillips brand for $19.

I've so far tried the Radioshack brand and it picked up a lot of channels including KCAL 9 HD

Flavor Flav: Yeaaaaa Boyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy...

Not sure If I wanna try the other antenna since this works very well :)

Thanks and I'll also look into the links you provided

lakersfanatic, does the change from Analog to Digital in 2009 affect the type of antenna you have?

I may be wrong about this, but my understanding of the whole analog to digital TV thing is that TV stations will no longer use air as a transmission line other than for satellite TV. the whole digital concept (scam) is geared toward charging you for cable TV and satellite TV. I guess capitalism asked "when there is this much demand why give it away for free when we can get paid in the TV makers market, the cable providers market, the pay per view market etc.".

thank goodness for the free internet.

Sorry for the late reply.
The change in 2009 won't really affect the type of antenna you have. In fact, i still have them old rabbit ears and have been able to pick up digital channels as well. I mean you can't pickup every channel but some channels. Basically the ones with very strong signals.

If you have them old tube TVs then you'll need to get a digital tuner to receive the digital channels. If you guys don't already know about it. You can get the digital tuner free. The government gives you coupons which you can apply here. https://www.dtv2009.gov/. I think you're allowed to get two per household.

If you already have cable or satellite tv, no need to worry about the change since most cable companies give you the basic channels already.
