So whats wrong with the Captain?

Post#1 » by Spin Move » Sat Dec 6, 2008 9:50 pm

He really is not shooting the ball at all well and his D has been a little off the past couple of game, it kinda looked like to me he was nursing some kind of ankle injury watching him move last game, but for a while, IE most of the season his shooting has been way off, he is in the best shape he has been in for years I don't know why he is not playing better I have heard rumors of a wrist injury, is his elbow acting up maybe? Whats the deal, any theories? Paul play's through pain, so I likley think there is something physically wrong.

It's strange. He's taking the least amount of shots per game in his whole career right now, and shooting a very poor percentage on top of that.

I honestly think he's just in a slump though, and he is content deferring a little more than he normally does. He HAS been attacking the basket well this year, and drawing fouls. That's often one of the first things to go when a player is playing hurt.

Well, he doesnt need to.
Its seems the rest of the team and his supporting cast is doing their jobs and certain players tone down their game since there team is coasting.
I see Duncan, Kobe, etc that have a good supporting cast doing that since they can take the night off from being the first or the second option.
I dont see anything phsically preventing him from going all out.
Or he could be saving all his energy for the Christmas game.......LOLLLLL

He's shooting poorly yes, and I wonder how much of that is because he is not getting into a rhythm because he's setting up team mates. Like what happened with Ray Allen last season, where he wasn't getting into the offense.

Superman hasn't been needed lately.

When the time comes, he'll go in the booth and be The Man.

I agree, I am not worried either. It's early, lots of basketball left to play.

Even though he has not been himself lately, he's still the guy I want with the ball when the game is on the line.

When he does finally get it going, it'll be fun to watch. We're 19 and 2 and we haven't hit on all cylinders yet!!!

Well, he did hurt his hand earlier in the season if I recall correctly. So, perhaps it is still affecting his shot a bit. I certainly don't have any worries. He'll be there when it counts and that is all that I am worried about.

Last few games he hasn't looked as fluid to me as he looked early in the season (even when he was cold), so I'll corroborate what Spin Move says or something to that extent. But I'm not worried at all just yet, these have been games where we haven't needed so much from him.

Well, he hasn't been able to find the bucket from three for a long while, actually having multiple airballs in the last couple of games. His swagger is not the same in the post game interviews.Somethings got him. I think the wrist is the issue. OBTW, Rondo's last second three is exactly the shooting form he should always have on a jumper. Those hands released the ball perfectly.

I'd have to add that I also think the captain has been 'off' as of late. His rhythm seems to be poor, and he seems to be playing with a little less concentration. Remember the preseason when we were all marveling that his off-season weight loss had added added a step to his quickness? Well that seems to be thing of the past these days. He has struggled to beat his man lately.

He doesn't seem to be favoring any particular area of his body, when watching him play, so there's no obvious indication of an injury. But his play does suggest that something's not quite right.
