Re: The Official Start Nick, Bench DeSuck Thread
Don't quite agree with the title of this thread.
I'm 100% on board with starting Nick Young. At this point its laughable that he's not in the starting lineup because he's our only guard currently on the active roster who's a legit NBA starting caliber player.
Where I disagree is in sitting Stevenson. I'd rather move him to the PG spot until Gil comes back or Grunfeld trades for another guard. Dee Brown shouldn't even be in the league and Daniels decaying corpse is becoming as much of a self check as Ruffin was - defenses can almost completely ignore him.
I'd rather keep DS's defense and passing (he is doing a solid job getting assists this year) in the lineup but with the express instruction for Tap that he only shoot when open and that he should never try and create his own shot off the dribble.

I think Daniels is starting to come around a little sooner than he did in past years. Usually when he starts attacking the basket and getting to the FT line (which he did at least twice against the Lakers) that's when he's getting to be the guy we know he can be. I think he's almost there and that makes him a better starting PG than Stevenson.
Another reason, probably the biggest IMO, to bench Stevenson is that it'll shake things up. To date, Tapscott hasn't done much to rock the boat. They've kept the same offense, mostly the same defense, and the same starting lineup that EJ had in place when he was fired. I think Taps has to be more bold and show that nobody's job is safe. Plus a pi$$ed off Stevenson might actually get back to playing defense and making shots.

And DeShawn just missed three straight free throws lol.
Where are the stats on how often that happens from a starting SG

You wanta hear something really crazy.
At 3-14 we are only 4 1/2 games out of the 8th seed. which is Phili
They play NJ, CLE, CLE then Us
Hopefully we see a new starting line up tonight. Time to get this worked out. I didn't want EJ gone all this time just to see more wrong line ups. We need to address our DS problem and we need to do it now so our players can start to grow.
It's time to invest in NY and AB. McGee will get his day. DS already has his.

Hell, that could work also. So we have several options to choose from.
I would like to see AB start at center specially against any team with the good center. He has less leaps then McGee but he is beefer and more experienced and has better handles and passing. Plus it finally time to give him a chance. He paid his dues. But then again, McGee can be a great spark sometimes to start a game.
We should always start the offense wtih CB, then AJ. They are the 2 more effective to start a game until the sweat starts rolling.
AB, AJ, CB, NY, DS
NY can drive, create his own shot and score from anywhere. DS can play ok D and shoot a few 3s if he is on. DS right now sucks from FT line and doesn't drive to dish. Not really a PG.
AB, AJ, CB, NY, AD
If AD is healthy enough to drive this is nice. He has even hit a few 3s lately.
AB, DSONG, AJ, CB, NY
This gives us more beef down low and a great passing in AB and DSONG. DSONG is actually a better post defender then AJ and he add one more player who can score from the start of a game. AJs range translates to SF while he can still post players down low. CB range translates to SG and NY can at least play the roll of a driving scoring PG. Really, he is the closest thing to GA so if you like GA at PG, NY will do also. Plus CB is a good assist player. If you go with this I wouldn't want NY shooting a lot from the outside to start. He should pass it off the CB, AJ, and DSong and try to drive when he can.
AB, DSONG, AJ, CB, AD
Same as above except if AD can only drive, has less range, and no 1 on 1 but you still have NY coming off the bench.
I'd do any of them but we are most potent scoring and tallest with
AB, DSONG, AJ, CB, NY
But the easier transitions from what we have seen are
AB, AJ, CB, DS, AD - this is fine if AD is driving and DS is hitting 3s. IF....
or
AB, AJ, CB, DS, D Brown - Again, DS would have to be scoring.
but then again you could go
AB, AJ, CB, NY, D Brown - I'm less worried NY won't score on any given game. He has lots of options.
Ok Tapps. Pick one.

If they don't make this change immediately starting with the Detroit game something is seriously wrong with how this team is being run.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

Dee Brown is garbage also. Has there been any thought to turning Stevenson into the official PG temporarily? If he had the mindset he might be able to pull it off.

Re: The Official Start Nick, Bench DeSuck Thread
Yeah Deshawn has played the PG in the second lineup used with Caron as the SF. I noticed he was on derrick rose, Caron on hughes and Jamison on deng, It gave us post up options but ofcourse cause caron and Jamison can't defend against the three which at this point should be obvious they got burned from long distance. I suspect when we play Detroit Rasheed will get alot of three's off unless guarded by blatche

I was just looking at Kobe's line against the Wizards and it wasn't pretty. Kobe was 5-17 and he got most of his points, being the superstar that he is, at the free throw line. Stevenson deserves a lot of credit for containing him through 3 quarters.

Just looking over the game log for Nick Young and it's apparent that he has really stopped hitting the hole. Over the past 7 games he has got the line a grand total of 5 times. For a guy with his athletic ability that is really not acceptable. I know he loves the fade-away, probably a little too much, but he he has shown he can really get to rim and draw fouls when he is determined. Hope he get's back to that, we could really use that out him since GIl is injured and DeShawn is terrible.

Teams have figured out that he only likes to go right. They're overplaying his right hand and forcing him left.

The kid needs minutes. So does AB. I want them both to start.
And as much as I'm impressed with McGee, it wouldn't suck if we brought him off the bench. Specially since they aren't going to play him more then 20 minutes. His spark would be welcome during the game in the 2nd just as much as it is well to start the game.
He is a rookie so he would be fine with coming off the bench. Start AB at center. Start NY also.
AB, AJ, CB, NY - then pick the 5th player be it DSONG or a PG (AD, DS, D Brown )
It's harder to start both McGee and AB because we only have those 2 to play center but I would like to see them more during the rotations.

Actually it looks like Young is simply settling for jumpers especially since he's making them. His 3 point percentage has risen significantly over the past 5 games.

Yeah, I was going to say that I haven't really noticed other teams forcing him left. What I have noticed is that he does not even attempt to drive. He might take two dribbles toward the hoop, stop, and then shoot a fade-away.
