Has AJ Hawk quit on his team?

Post#1 » by xTitan » Mon Dec 8, 2008 1:59 am

Hawk has been teetering on the brink of becoming a major bust and today he may have cemented it. I watched the game with a friend and talked to a couple more afterwards and it was apparent to all of us that Hawk absolutely mailed in this game and gave almost no effort. I would love to be a fly on the wall of that lockerroom, Hawk does not have a reputation as being a whiner, moper, or quitter, but there must be some real bitter feelings between him and this staff to give no effort and get taken out of plays time and again.

I don't think it's a lack of effort, he just doesn't have the talent. Too slow to cover anyone, marginal against the run and ineffective when he is allowed to blitz. Although it doesn't help our linebackers that our defensive line is lousy (minus Kampman)

Definitely a bust as the #5 overall.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

As highly touted as that class was, it's been a complete disaster thus far.

Hawk is kind of like the Joe Smith of basketball. Solid player for the most part? Yes. But a bust in the aspect of the where they were drafted and the expectations that come with it. Hawk is a decent player but the #5 overall pick is supposed to be a stud difference maker.

man i've felt like he has quit since his second year in the league. when he was in college he was a player that didnt really show much emotion or passion while he was playing, he made up for that with his natural talent, unfortuneatly everyone in the nfl is extremely talented and he cant get by on just his natural ability anymore. the guy is not a leader like we thought he was gonna be, and really doesnt seem to give a **** about anything. we should trade him and stay hungry.

Yep

I watch him vs the run and i wonder if he has stickum or velcro on his jersey because if a blocker engages AJ, he isn't getting off that blocker no matter what. That doesn't even account for all the times he gets pancaked. Bishop made more impact plays today than Hawk has all season.A telling example to me for part of the reason the defense is so weak vs the run came last week. They replayed a long run by Deangelo Williams and on that play, both Harrell and Hawk got flat out on their back pancaked by a blocker.

Obviously the run defense woes go way deeper than just those two guys, but it's hard to build a really good defense when your 5th and 16th overall picks in the draft are generally invisible except for when they are getting schooled by the offense.

Bet that groin injury's worse than we know. A guy doesn't regress this badly without something else going on.

Yeah, I agree 100%. I was expecting so much more out of him, but right now he's really just like Bogut. Nothing special, but a solid player. But they frustrate you when they play because they should be so much better! Plus, I have both of their jerseys. :x
