WOW. Greg Oden a bust after watching him play for only 18 minutes??????????????????????

Greg Oden is a beast. He is 7'0, 280, strong, atlethic, and a great rebounder and defender. He is just learning how to play in the NBA. He had a tought night because he was going up against the best defense in the NBA and 2 great defenders in Perkins and KG.

You can see how Oden make POB look like a little kid was guarding him when POB had to foul him twice in about 30 seconds.

If Oden can stay healthy, he will be one of the best centers for the next 10-15 years. I can easily see him averaging about 16 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game in the next 1-2 years.

The problem with having a lot of "potential" on your team is that it gives you a sense of false hope. The Bulls had several teams with immense potential throughout this decade, and look where that's gotten them. Yeah it's fun to imagine having a dominant team in the future, but there's still an element of uncertainty. I'd rather watch a current dominant team than a team based on potential who'll possibly be dominant in the future. With that said, Oden hasn't been lucky in the past few years in terms of injuries, but from what I've seen of him when he's actually on the court, he seems like a top-notch defender/rebounder.

Name calling is not necessary. I am entitled to my opinion fella. Who gives a d*** what YOU think about it! By the way, maybe it is an over-reaction and I agree with a lot of your valid points, but the fact remains, I'm happy the way the ball bounced that draft lottery.

I agree that our bad luck with the ping pong balls was probably a blessing in disguise, given the way things have turned out. But to flat out say that "Greg Oden is a BUST!" is tragically hilarious, there's absolutely no way of knowing that yet - unless you're the second coming of Jesus Christ. Are you the second coming of our Lord and Saviour? :P

Chill main event, your on thin ice, this is not a warning, but something tells me part of your reason for starting this thread was to bait some trailblazer fans, you started a thread about on of their players you have to expect them to react somewhat strongly. What he said just misses crossing the line for an attack, but its not quite there.

As for Oden he may not be an all star but his worst case scenario is a 12 and 12 guy, there just are not that many of those think an upgraded dale davis, that aint to bad he is far from a bust he had a bag game but he is a rookie, if he is still having this trouble in 2 years id start to worry, he lacks a post game, but he will be taught that in time, he has great defensive instincts, he just needs to learn how to now foul a little better and put alot of work on O and stay health and 4 years from now he is an all star.

He's out of shape and he's 20 and he's still already the best rebounder in the NBA. Perhaps he'll be a bust, but only because he seems to be injury prone. Whether that continues is anyone's guess.

Perhaps you're joking, but I wouldn't say Oden is the best rebounder in the game. No doubt he's a solid player though and has been taking too much heat lately.

Dwight Howard is the best center in the league and sometimes gets 20 and 20. The other day Dwight got a double double in the first quarter.

It's way to early to be calling Oden a potential bust, a quarter of the way through his rookie year, especially considering he sat all of last year. He hasn't even truly got his legs under him yet.

On thin ice for what? Voicing my opinion on an opposing teams player? Wow. This had NOTHING to do with trying to bait any fans of ANY other team. Let me understand what you are saying, if I voice how I feel about a player on another team I am on "thin ice" because I am inciting a riot? So these boards are NOT meant for that very reason? I should expect that other teams fans will be here perusing out board to see what we have to say about their players? Unbelievable! but ok...you're in charge.

at the worst I can see Oden being a very good defensive center, at the best he could be the in the top 3 centers in the league.

he has issues, but what rookie doesn't? A center who can do what he can do straight away as a defender is going to be a very useful team mate. It is just like Perkins, he has the skills, he just needs to learn the nba game to cut down on fouls and get his minutes up.

And his ceiling is higher than Perks, who himself has turned into a legit starting NBA center.

This is all on the proviso that he stays healthy, because it doesn't matter how good you are if you are injured.

Just curious about where this came from. Everything I've read about Oden seems to portray him as a very down-to-earth and easy to get along with kind of guy. Is what you wrote just your opinion or did you read this somewhere?

Yeah, Oden is a true bust. I mean cmon, the guy is only putting up a 17.1 PER and capable of playing studly defense! What a loser! Better dump him now or Portland will regret it worse than when we signed Mark Blount.

He sure looked like a defensive force blocking Ray's shot. Ray utterly altered his layup to make it a kind of flying hook shot, and Oden got off a clean block anyway. I don't know what else Ray could have realistically done with the ball to get it into the hoop.

And by the way, I find it very odd that a Portland player is being CRITICIZED for not being the life of the party ...

... indeed, I thought that was part of the idea of drafting him.

If Oden doesn't look like he's having a good time, it's probably mainly because he's bewildered by the speed of the game. Besides, who would you rather have -- Oden or Noah?

Some other 7 footer got criticised for not having the dominant personality required to win championships.

Anyone care to hazard a guess?

While I do think it's entirely too early to call him a bust, I do agree he seems to lack the killer instinct or burning fire inside that makes the great ones great. Yeah he's only 20, but guys like KG, LeBron, Kobe, Magic, Bird, Jordan, etc all had it in college and as pros when they were 18-22...Oden just seems to drift along.

I didn't see much from him Friday night but I'll wait another 2-3 seasons before passing any judgment on whether he'll be a total bust. But I don't see him becoming the next dominant HOF big man in the league...
