Also, if we want to compare our performance to that of the Celtics and Cavs (in terms of the past few weeks), I've noticed that they tend to leave their starters in the game at later stages than we do (see their recent play-by-play), whether it's a blowout or not. This is why you don't see the Celtics or Cavs squandering large leads. Although I wouldn't mind seeing Phil do a little more of this by leaving a few starters in the game deep into the 4th, I think come playoff time we'll be the ones with fresher legs as a result.
I hope so.
While we played pretty well defensively, I thought a lot of the Bucks' woes stemmed from the fact that, A. They missed a ton of wide-open looks, and B. Skiles got pissed at his starters and decided to bench them. Not to piss on the parade, though. The effort was generally good -- I just think you could blame them just as much as credit us.
We still have a lot to prove as a defensive team, and I need to see more to have much confidence that we'll be able to stop people when it counts.
Regarding the playing time, I think Phil is super cognizant of the fact that Kobe and Pau both had long summers with the Olympics, and is doing everything in his power to keep them fresh. As much as it might frustrate us at times, I think it's the only way to go.
Especially with Kobe having crested the 1,000-game plateau. Keeping him under 35 minutes a game on a consistent basis is going to be crucial towards extending his career and maintaining his impact as his athletic ability wanes.
