Four All-Stars?

Post#1 » by nyhuskyfan » Mon Dec 8, 2008 3:06 am

There's still a ways to go before the All-Star break, but what do you think? The Pistons had four a couple years ago. I would have guessed two going into this season, with Ray dropping out and KG and PP going, but Ray's probably playing better than anyone (his shooting percentage is probably over 50 percent after today). And Rondo (tonight's off game notwithstanding) has gotten in the discussion among the top point guards in the East, especially with Billups now in the West.

You'd figure KG gets voted in, but could Boston get four? Or are there just too many talented players in the East to get all four in there?

Honestly, as successful as Rondo's TEAM has been, 10 games in single digits out of 22 this season.. I dunno man, the only PG I can think of getting into the ASG with SG like that is prolly Jason Kidd, and that's a guy with the 2nd best court vision EVER. I'm just not ready to put Rondo in the same sentence as Jason Kidd, maybe you guys are.

Rondo shouldn't be an AS, but the PG crew in the EC is pretty damn weak. It's possible.

The last time that four Celtics made the All-Star game was 1967, I believe.

Center - Bill Russell 13.3 ppg, 21 rpg, 5.8 apg
Power Forward - Bailey Howell 20 ppg @ 51.2%, 8.4 rpg
Small Forward - John Havlicek 21.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.6 apg
Shooting Guard - Sam Jones 22.1 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 3 apg

That team won 60 games (after winning 8 straight and 9 out of 10 Championships),
finishing second to Philadelphia's 68-13 NBA Champion squad.

Even though Phili was 68-13 that year,
during their 10 regular season games against Boston they were 5-5.

The 2009 Celtics will unfortunately not get the same level of respect
from opposing coaches.

The Eastern Conference coaches will probably vote players in on
straight statistics, meaning some guy who takes 20 shots per game
for a 10 win team will probably get voted in over a team that
may enter the All-Star break with over 40 wins (out of a possible 50).

I seriously doubt Rondo even makes it... but it's going to be a travesty when Yi Jianlian gets voted in, yeah some of you forgot about that one huh? It's gonna be Lebron and Yi starting in the front court >_>

And the coaches may not even vote Pierce in at this rate.

Thanks, Maxwell.

I forgot that Silas made it the same year as JoJo,
but then JoJo made like 7 straight All-Star Teams.

By the way, Maxwell, your 1975 boxscore illustrates a point.

That crappy players make All-Star games.

Steve Mix of hapless Philadelphia and
Jim Price of Milwaukee had no business being on an All-star team, stats or no stats.

So, either there is a sucker born every minute,
and a few of them ended up Eastern Conference NBA coaches,
or ...

All Star Gaurds id place ahead of Rondo

Wade, Iverson, Hamilton, Ray Allen, Michael Redd, Joe Johnson, Iguadala, Calderon

Competition: Andre Miller, Mo Williams, Mike BIbby

The Rondo all star talk is kind of ridiculous.

I really hope that Rondo doesn't make it this year---C's thrive on motivation....Besides, ALL Star Games are kinda like the Grammys---useless...I mean C'mon, Ray Allen was the MVP last year---but of course it goes to LeBron.....the EAST was finished UNTIL Ray Allen took over and rescued them when it mattered the most.

I doubt the big 3 even gets in. Last year Ray only got in after multiple guys couldn't play and its not looking good for Pierce this year.

yeah if Yi gets voted in it will throw a monkey wrench in to the all star game. this is why the voting should be done by the coaches. of course stern is loving this as he is trying to perform global domination. heres my east all star team.
starters .........reserves

Iverson / Harris
Wade / Ray Allen
LBJ / J.Johnson / Pierce
KG / Brand
Howard / Bosh

I cant really decide who would be the last player. Id love for it to be Rondo, but i just dont think he is going to make it. Derrick Rose i think might have a good shot.

Paul Pierce will be an all-star. He hasn't played great for a two weeks as far as shooting goes. But at the start of the season Paul Pierce was the best player on the best team in the league. Can you recall who is better Paul Pierce or Kobe Bryant talks? Has anyone watch a Lakers game this season? Kobe Bryant hasn't been outstanding but he sure will be in the all-star game. I think the big 3 will get in, Rondo mioght have to wait. But what PG in the east outside of Devin Harris is having a been season then Rondo? Right now the All-Star starting back court should be Harris and D-Wade. Then you have to take Ray Allen as the 3rd guard. Who will be the 4th guard? Iverson and Rip Hamilton having done much since the trade and their team has a losing record since Iverson got there.

Yi's getting voted in? I don't think there's a chance of that happening. Be realistic now. Why don't you guys say Sun Yue is getting voted in too.

FYI, Kobe has the highest selling jersey in China, not Yao Ming.

As for having 4 All-Stars - I'd rather have none of the Cs make it. I'd much prefer that we rest the Big 3. If Rondo made it, that would be ok since he's a young guy. However, I wouldn't place him ahead of Rose and Harris as they're putting up better numbers, so he's not going to be heading out to Phoenix. Don't expect any of the coaches to help the Cs out in any manner this year.

Lets not be ridiculous. Pierce and KG are top 15 players IN THE LEAGUE, nevermind the Eastern Conference.

No way Rondo makes the team over Marbury, who is on the ballot, and will be getting my vote.

Seriously though, a lot of guards deserve it this year. Wade is obviously a lock. Iverson has a chance to get voted in because he is Allen Iverson, but if he isn't voted in then he won't make it. Ray Allen has to be there. Vince Carter and Devin Harris are both deserving for the surprising Nets and I see them both making the team. Joe Johnson has had a good year and Atlanta is 12-7 with Smith missing considerable time. Bibby probably even has an outside shot if he can keep it up. Derrick Rose is a likely pick as well. So that's six extremely deserving guards with Bibby and Iverson as possibilities. Calderon is in the mix, too.

Although Rondo has been everything we could've hoped for, he will get the squeeze due to other deserving players who are putting up bigger stats. Would anyone really be upset if Rondo missed making the team because Wade, Harris, VC, Ray Allen, and JJ or Rose got the Eastern Conference guard slots? I wouldn't be.
