Coverage and Conference on FSN now

I'm watching the sleepy guy talk right now.

Listening on KFAN before they switched to Brad Childress' conference. One thing I liked initally is McHale stressed they needed an identity. Couldn't agree more.

Whaaaat? So McHale is our actual new coach? Not interim? Are we going to have to go through two years of him to?

I doubt he will stick around for that long, doesn't he really dislike coaching? Anyway, whatever keeps him from being GM is ok with me for now.

I'd like to transcribe but I have to bounce in like 5 minutes. Basically Taylor said McHale is our coach, technically not just a place holder. He is no longer the VP someone else is taking that job. McHale feels like the team doesn't have an identity and palyers aren't being used to their strengths. Geln Taylor still believes in the players we got and he still believes in this season being a good one. He wants McHale to be a tutor and someone who can offer guidance. McHale could have stayed as GM and hired someone else but he decided to take responsibility for his choices and took on the coaching job.

Thats what they said. "This isnt an interim position". Im skeptical obviously, but this takes him out of the FO and I think this makes it a much easier decision to fire him as a coach as opposed to firing him as a VPOB. I dont think McHale is untouchable is what im saying

"Interim" is a sketchy term anyway. McHale won't be coaching past this season if he has it his way, but if he does well, I don't see how he couldn't remain coach.

Seems like a win-win situation to me. McHale is out of FO decision making. If he fails at coaching or decides he can't stand the job, then he quits or is fired. If he is successful, I'm fine with having him stay as coach.

I couldn't agree more. I would like to see him be successful as a coach. If not then he's out, completely win win

yeah...it is a win-win. He probably will still offer advice come draft time, but his power will be diminished considerably. you never know, maybe he is the next phil jackson. He certainly has basketball knowledge and knows what it takes to win. If he ends up making progress to the tune of 30-35 wins, then I will actually want him as coach.

The line about him wanting to accept responsibility for his guys and prefer to coach and not stay as vp...Im not sure that is an accurate statement. I think taylor demanded it and mchale had to go along and they spun it like he is the good guy. Either way, its a step in the right direction.

That is total spin. He is in the hotseat, this is his last chance.

one of the guys asked "when someone is calling to make a trade who answers that phone now?"

Taylor answered "Jim Stack"

I don't know what that makes Stack or Freddy.

Glen Taylor will be on Chad Hartman's show on KFAN in minutes.

I hope the GM situation is just an interim thing. I don't have a whole lot of confidence in Stack.

Hasn't Stack been our GM for four years now?

Yea Stack has been around, but McHale has always been the guy who was working the team's trades and signing's and such. I think.

Hopefully Stack and Hoiberg put their heads together and dont make the same mistakes McHale has.

I'm just worried that he's going to be McHale Jr. or something.

Honestly I don't know (and I am assuming many of you guys don't know) all of what McHale, Stack and Hoiberg's duties are. Then you throw in a guy like Chris Wright. McHale might be a catch-all for all of this blame.

How many teams actually have a VP of basketball operations? Isn't it typically just the GM?
