2010

Post#1 » by TMU » Mon Dec 8, 2008 9:21 pm

Since every team has been talking about 2010, I thought it would be appropriate if we talk about it as well.

According to hoopshype, Houston's payroll in 2010 is the following:

Yao Ming: $17.6 million
Shane Battier: $7.4 million
Carl Landry: $3 million
Sucky Hayes: $2.3 million (Team Option)
Aaron Brooks: $2 million (Team Option)
Joey Dorsey: $900,000 (Team Option)

Assuming we keep Hayes, Brooks and Dorsey,
TOTAL: ~ $28 million

Since the cap will be set near $60 million, it gives us room for another max contract.

So, who are our likely targets in 2010?

Here's a list of players who will be FAs in 2010.

I honestly don't see us attracting a big time FA, what with some of the clubs in more lucrative markets creating cap space in 2010 as well.

I agree with you on that. More than a dozen of teams are under the cap by 2010, it's a matter of where those FAs want to play. But we do have Yao by 2010, I'm sure someone will want to play next to him - whether he is an all-star or not.

According to ESPN Yao has an ETO after 2010.

Yep, but that's a player's option. I doubt that Yao exercise that option. He's pretty loyal to the team. :D

Even If we cant sign a Big time Star

We can sign a role player or someone pretty good.

Think of our team with HEALTH after that!

Hey , let's say Brooks and Landry are capable of starting , Battier still quite good , and Yao is still not too washed up..We could sign one or two capables players fun ...no ?

I am actually pretty sure Yao will exercise this option. He'll be even more on the decline and his people will relate to him the joys of playing in the smaller Eastern conference. Some East team will offer him a max contract.

Besides...I am 100% sure you can't win a title with Yao as he is right now so we ought to hope he opts out.

^ Dunno about the first part, but I've said the second for years. A bit closer to 85% though, so I can still dream.
