Re: Official Trade Thread (all trade ideas here. No exceptions)
Lately our most glaringly obvious weakness has been PG play. Thus i've come up with an end of the year trade that should put us over the top. Two reasons why end of the year, firstly, maybe Fish and Farmar will improve their defense and render this trade moot, secondly i need Mbenga's trade restriction to expire on the 24th to be able to include him in the deal.
It goes...
LAL trades
Fisher
Mihm
MBenga
3 mil cash or less cash for some 2nd rounders
CHI trades
Hinrich (when he's healthy of course)
Why would both teams do it? We need to upgrade our PG position in a bad way. Fish is too old and Farmar is way too erratic (personally i'd trade Farmar but his contract is too small). With Rose having pushed Hinrich to backup PG he's now making way too much for a reserve so i'm sure the fiscally conservative Bulls would love to get his contract off the books in time for the 2010 FA bonanza (who knows with Rose as a cornerstone they might be able to attract an elite player). Hinrich's play has also fallen off as late but i belive it due to going from a structured offensive attack under Skiles to a mess where Rose has to freewheel to get anything going, something that Hinrich does NOT have the skillset to excel in. He simply needs a new start in a structured system where he knows his role. In the Tri with Hinrich's combination of defense, 3 point shooting, and bball IQ i think he can make a seamless transition similar to Pau. Mihm has shown he's pretty much healthy this year, but unable to crack our regular rotation and with the woeful assortment of bigs the Bulls are trotting out i genuinely believe he might be able to win the starting spot if he can recapture some of his old game. Worse case he's an expiring, ditto for Mbenga pure salary filler fodder. DFish OTOH is a prickly situation, sure we have his whole daughter medical thing, but we might be able to get around it if the Bulls buy out his contract (and he can rejoin us on the cheap, yay!), or if the Bulls want a crusty old vet to backup Rose, Fisher is actually a solid option who most importantly contract expires in 2010. DFish right now has totally lost it and on the business side of things we need to upgrade the PG situation NOW and for the future which Hinrich fits to the T. Possible downside ot Hinrich is that he makes a pretty penny this year at 10 mil BUT his contract actually declines .5-1 mil a year til it expires in 2011-12 at 8 mil. So all in all a very reasonable contract for a player of Hinrich's caliber. Another thing that'll hurt is clearing out our 7 footer glut in MIhm and Mbenga, but since they've contributed so little anyway, i'm sure we can pick up some more scrubs from somewhere for cheap.
Right now Hinrich's value is at its absolute lowest. While we cant trade for him now due to injury, i say we this is a highly plausible and excellent solution to our PG woes if it hasnt been fixed by the New Year.
Thoughts and comments? Oh and no, there's no way in freaking hell we can dump Walton on anyone, his contract is so toxic it's almost reaching Eddy "McNugget" Curry status, due to its insane length.

Expect one more problem though if Bynum or Gasol get hurt we will be in big trouble in the C department because of what foul trouble that they can get into and with no depth to back it up with. So do something about that.

Powell becomes Ronny Turiaf 2.0, and we made it to the finals last year with Bynum out. If we lose one of our core bigs we're screwed regardless in the finals anyway. Finding a scrub level 7 footer isn't all that hard.

Sasha, Mihm and Yue for Battier would be a great deal for both teams. Sasha is around 6 years younger and Mihm is a serviceable back up to YAo and Yue would play w/ his country mate.
Battier would be perfect for the Lakers', 6-8, career 75 % ft shooter and career 39 % from three, and his defense is well known, and best of all he knows his role and enjoys it.
A lineup of Fish, Kobe, Bynum, Gasol and Battier be amazing. With Vlad, Ariza, Odom, Farmar in that rotation be sick.
Houston would have Alston, TMAC, Yao, Landry/ Scola, Artest...With Sasha's shooting and lesser contract and youth on their side. W/ a savings of three million on the cap. Rockets bench of Brooks, Sasha, Landry, Mihm,

With all the confusion going on in Phoenix, I wonder if they think about rebuilding with Amare and look to unload some contracts as part of their "Business Decisions".

I like getting rid of my two least favorite players in Radman and Farmar, but... I honestly don't feel Ak has the toughness we need. Also, his fragile frame is something to consider.
Hinrich, yes... but his contract is bad, but if we can unload Radman, then it would be okay.
Giving up Ariza is the kicker here (but you do have to give up something to get something..usually). I just don't see Ak47 exactly solving our problems, even if he stays relatively healthy. His help defense is good, but he just isn't that grind-in your nose type defender.
Pretty creative scenerio though..

Re: Official Trade Thread (all trade ideas here. No exceptions)
My trade:
Lakers:
Vladimir Radmanovic - 3years 6mill/yr
Chirs Mihm - 1years- 2.5mil
For
Chicago Bulls
Kirk Hinrich: 10mill - 4years
More flexibility+caproom for Chicago, and Hinrich is basically expendable for them.
Lakers
Lamar Odom - 14mill/1yr
Jordan Farmar - 1mill/2yrs
For:
Wizards:
Caron Butler - 9mill/3yrs
Deshawn Stevenson - 3mill/2yrs
Cap room for the Wizards
So...
PG: Fisher/Hinrich or Hinrich/Fisher
SG: Kobe/Stevenson/Vujacic
SF: Caron Butler/Ariza/Luke
PF: Gasol/Powell
C: Bynum/Gasol/Mbenga
Lakers add an extra 15million for the next 2 years, and 12million for 3years. Assuming they let Odom walk for nothing, and don't resign Farmar - so really its like adding half of that for what they would be expecting to pay. Not that bad.
I dunno.. its def. a trade that would never happen but whatever, it was interesting to figure it out.

Re: Official Trade Thread (all trade ideas here. No exceptions)
Detroit has decided on starting Stuckey, AI, and Rip together. The problem I see for them is that Prince is not a full time PF. I could see him doing well there against second stringers, but I could see a lot of starting PF's crushing him. So that made me think that we may have a trade partner in Detroit.
Here is my simple idea.
LAL Trade
Odom
DET Trades
Prince
Amir Johnson
LAL Depth Chart
PG- Fisher / Farmar / Yue
SG- Bryant / Vujacic / Yue
SF- Prince / Ariza / Vlad / Luke
PF- Gasol / Prince / Johnson
C- Bynum / Gasol / Mihm
That would then leave us with a glut of SF's. So I got to thinking of follow up trades that might help with that. Phoenix may need some help at PF with Diaw leaving, and Vlad can definitely help there, while with Richardson in the fold Barbosa's minutes figure to dwindle. This is what I came up with.
LAL Trades
Vlad
Farmar
PHO Trades
Barbosa
LAL Depth Chart
PG- Fisher / Barbosa / Yue
SG- Bryant / Vujacic / Yue
SF- Prince / Ariza / Walton
PF- Gasol / Prince / Johnson
C- Bynum / Gasol / Mihm
I am pretty confident Detroit would like the first deal, I just don't know about Phoenix. The reason I think the Phoenix deal would work is the fact that Vlad is really improved this year, and I noticed he has really improved his rebounding. He could definitely give Phoenix quality minutes at the 4 and really spread the floor while he is at it.
How would my fellow Lakers fans feel about these deals?

Anyone else think Houston might be a good trading partner if we are willing to give up Farmar and get back Battier in return? They've been struggling for a quality PG for so long and Battier might not play as much as they need for his defensive impact to show up.

It'd have to be accompanied by a trade for back up or starting PG using our other pieces though.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. To Houston, Farmar represents a young talented PG that gives them an option at least for a quality PG.
It seems like the Lakers need a guy in there who can bring that defensive impact consistently, and if that guy is Battier lets get him.

I could understand the Lakers not wanting to upset their roster, but is there really a team out there that would offer an expiring for Farmer + Walton?

As a Bulls fan, I'd probably do some of the trades you guys suggest with Hinrich. He is a great defender and a solid player. Im not sure the Bulls want to move him, however. Mostly because we have no other PG to help Rose. With Hinrich out, Rose has been playing way too many minutes as a rookie and they are asking him to do way too much.
For me, Id do the Fish, Mihm Mbenga trade, but I would not do Radmanovich. The guy sucks and has a horrible contract. IE, I would be looking for a salary dump.

I would, as long as the expiring contract isn't useless. If he's a defensive upgrade over the two of them, bring it on.

Re: Official Trade Thread (all trade ideas here. No exceptions)
Not now but after the Boston game if we are not impressive.
Trade our defensive cupcakes to NY (Radman, Vujacic, Walton, and Sun) for Curry, M. Rose, and Roberson.
Trade Curry, Odom, Ariza, Farmar to CHI for Deng, Hinrich, Nocioni, and Sefolosha.
CHI pluses: Clear all bad contracts, make playoffs, gain size and low post presence, secure solid place in 2010 Wade sweepstakes with only 20 mill (Curry, D. Rose, and Noah) on payroll, chance to up Curry's value (for possible trade) by bringing him back home and utilizing his skillset.
CHI minuses: Curry is hated in CHI, Curry's contract expires the year after 2010 (11.5 mill), solid playoff team this year but next year will lose Gooden, Odom, Ariza, and Gordon (unless they sign bloated one year deals).
NY pluses: Lethal outside shooting, solid chance to bloat Vujacic and Radman's numbers to trade them next year before summer of 2010, rid themselves of Curry's very difficult contract to trade and replace it with Walton's equally difficult contract to trade, but for 6 mill cheaper (Curry 11.2 in 2010, Walton 5.2 in 2010).
NY minuses: Vujacic and Radman's contracts expire the year after 2010, Walton will be practically immovable (unless he absolutely blows up in NY ... highly unlikely).
LAL pluses: Improve defense at PG (Hinrich and Sefolosha), improve defense at SF (Deng and Nocioni).
LAL minuses: Deng lacks range on jumper, completely changes the complexion of a team trying to win a championship, difficulty of learning the triangle on the fly, losing solid third bigman in Odom and replacing him with combo of Powell, M. Rose, Mihm, and Mbenga, Deng's long, expensive contract.
Again I only do this deal after January 1st. This allows enough time for Farmar, Vujacic, and Radman or Walton to prove they can play CONSISTENT defense.

Bulls fan piping in:
I would hope that Hinrich and Nocioni are available for expiring contracts. We know that Hinrich was about to be traded for Al Harrington (which was a salary dump) before Hinrich got hurt.
Both of their contracts are declining, which makes it easy on teams, but it also makes contracts like Walton and Vlad tough to take on, since they both increase.
I think both guys would fit on LA pretty well.
