What would the Kings record be if they had a legendary coach? Say if Celtics legend Red Auerbach, or some other coaching legend was calling the shots what would their record be?

We'd be a little better off offensively, and much better off defensively. I think 8-10 wins is realistic.

Even with 10 wins,
we'd be 10-11, .476, 10th in west.
Anything less than .550 won't get you in the playoffs anymore in the west.
With a different coach, playoffs are still utterly unobtainable, the only thing that would change would be our lottery position, from 3-6 dropping to 10-14.
That's the difference of a player that could possibly work out and become something, to a player that most likely will work out. Also, you never know, 2 years back ago, we had 1 more win than Portland (they got the 1st pick), 2 more wins than Seattle (2nd pick), 3 more wins than Atlanta (3rd pick) and last year, 5 more wins than Chicago (1st pick).
Changing a coach this year won't help us at all, it'll only likely hurt us in the long run. Give Theus job security, tell him, "your 100% safe this year, however, we aren't currently happy with what we are seeing. We think Thompson/Hawes should be getting more minutes, we think that the team needs better defense, it needs a clear offensive system, younger players need to be developed more. Take the rest of the season to experiment with the roster. This time next year, we'll be judging. Lollipop?"

This is what I keep saying over and over. It is pretty obvious today that without that impact top 5 pick player you go NOWHERE in the modern NBA.

Even if that's true, that not going to help us make the playoffs THIS year...so why replace Reggie and pay yet ANOTHER coach this season??? Let Reggie attempt to right the ship. He's got until the end of the year. If he can't show improvement then, sure go another direction at the end of the season, whatever. But canning him now isn't going to magically make this roster a playoff roster. We need to get a top 3 talent in this next draft and purge some more bad contracts out of the roster. Once that happens we'll start making HUGE strides. Until then, we need to sit tight and enjoy watching the smaller strides that can occur now and await potential opportunities that may arise with someone else's misfortune via trade or what have you. There's no quick fix and this WILL take time.

Not saying it will. I was just answering the question.

Wasn't calling you out specifically. Just in general to those chanting to fire Reggie...it's not going to change our lot much, even if we had a HOF coach.

Re: What would the Kings record be if they had a legendary coach
I'm fine with keeping Reggie as long as the following happens:
1) Jason and Spencer get meaningful (i.e. not garbagetime) minutes, playing alongside eachother in their natural positions.
2) We show some idea of what kind of system we are going to run in the future. I don't care how horrible it looks now as long as it takes advantage of our young player's strengths.
So far, Reggie has miserably failed in both, but at least #1 happened in the Denver game, so I'm optimistic. About the system, I'm sick of seeing no rhyme or meter to Reggie's rotations. He need to figure out how he wants this team to play and who he wants to use. The guy looks confused and incompetent out there. Most of our possesions end up in Beno dribbling everywhere around the court or in a Salmons iso. If that's the best Reggie can come up with then he's got to go.

I agree Theus needs to be playing the young guys more, but it was the Maloofs that came on the radio and said quit playing the kids and win some freaking games or you will be fired. The Maloofs panicked because the seats were empty. The Maloofs need to tell Reggie to play the young guys and he will be back no matter what.

Re: What would the Kings record be if they had a legendary coach
The question is really do we want to develop our own future hall of fame coach or do we want current hall of fame coach? That is a tough question. Do we want Theus who is a former Kings player (like Adelman) who will take time to develop but was a HOF player, but who never really won the big one as a player? Or do we want Flip Saunders who is a HOF coach (like Adelman) who has trouble winning the big ones? Or do we want Avery Johnson who only won the big one as a player because of David Robinson and Tim Duncan and Sean Elliot? I happened to be stationed in San Antonio during Avery's time, and loved the guy but there were probably 100 guys who could have done his job just like anyone who played with MJ. My biggest problem with Reggie at this point is his coaching staff is all shooters no defense. Saunders is the most finished product as a coach, so if we could get Saunders (there are 6 coaching vacancies right now) how long would he be here? Avery is really no more proven than Theus since Avery was handed Dirk who was developed by Don Nelson. Would we be better off developing Theus who would be a very good coach in a couple of years when our players mature also? There are a lot of tough questions at this point. Maybe another coach gets us to close to .500 but do we really have a contending team this year? I don't think so. Do you think Theus would have won if he was in the same situation as Avery with the talent of the Mavs team? Probably, I don't think either stands head and shoulders above the other. Could Theus win with the Detroit Pistons lineup? Probably. Flip even had his poorest record with Garnett as a 1st year player. So I really don't see a coaching change as the reason we will ressurrect the Kings.
I think we try and get a nails tough PG in the draft maybe even trade our 2 picks to move up if necessary and get us a big winner PG (like Bibby/Wade/Billups all close to 20/5 guys). This is the real reason we are not winning we have no one who takes the team in their hand and carries it to a win most games. I want to see more JT clutch time chances also as a SF, unless BJax or Salmons is on fire down the stretch. I think he will be a Dirk or Garnett clutch guy maybe even possibly TDish. Let him play.
