Hindsight is 20/20 on Forte

Post#1 » by Chewie » Tue Dec 9, 2008 3:54 pm

As Forte continues his amazing rookie season....an amusing look back on the pre-season Forte comments.

The good :
BULL even PAX wrote:Forte is a between the tackles guy, loves to run hard. Think of Edge James when he was running hard. He always fell forward for another yard or two, thats what this guy can bring.

Chicago will love him for that. Lunchpail guy through and through. He's a solid workhorse.

bobsampson wrote:The more i research Forte, the more i like him.... He'll be "that guy" on the Bears...

Chewie wrote:So - we've established Forte doesn't fumble, can pass block, has good size/speed ratio, and also catches the ball out of the backfield. The clips I see shows he lets his blockers set up the run before he hit the hole and he's got some jukes to boot once he hits the open field.

What's not to like?

Cliff Levingston wrote:Cliff Levingston likes this pick, and think it'll eventually spell the end of Cedric Benson.

The bad :

WEFFPIM wrote:Good to sign him, but am I the only one who doesn't think Forte's gonna do much of anything? Not sure why I feel that way, I just kinda do.

Ruben Douglas wrote:crap

dougthonus wrote:Can't say I'm too enamored with this pick.

Bulls Fan 23 wrote:I would've taken Jamal Charles from Texas.

The ugly :

BigUps wrote:This pick blows. I'm sorry, I could care less what his stats and 40 times were. We drafted an RB that may or may not be as good as Adrian Peterson when we had a chance at a higher ranked QB or WR, 2 positions we need to fill. We drafted Garret Wolfe last year too. Redundant.

Garsh, heaven forbid we can't see into the future.

Ha! EXACTLY. More of a statement on our line than on Forte but.....+1.

This was my favorite:

"We drafted Garret Wolfe last year too."

Right. Apparently we have to live with our mistake of drafting Wolfe forever rather than try and right the wrong and draft Forte.

 The only thing I remembered was being angry about not picking up Limas Sweed but after seeing his highlights being so so about the pick.

Based on your comments I think you seemed more 'on the fence' about the pick - more of a wait and see attitude so I left you out....

Always fun to look back at preseason. I wasn't really psyched about Forte when we drafted him, I didn't know much about him except that I'd heard very little about him and that made me nervous. He's been awesome though. I went to get a Forte jersey for my nephew for Christmas, but they didn't have any so I got him a throwback authentic Payton jersey instead. You'll never go out of style wearing a Payton jersey.

It's a shame we got nothing out of Chris Williams this year, I was a huge fan of the Williams pick, and if he was performing like 1st round LT right now, our offensive line would probably be outstanding with the way St. Clair has played.

Well, in my defense, between the scouting reports and what people were saying, it was similar to Cedric out of college. I liked his highlights, but in many of them I saw him getting chased down - so I wasn't sure he'd translate to the pros. He still does get chased down, but his bread and butter has been the other thing you saw in highlights: the footwork. Unlike Benson, he finds the holes and can move his feat on a dime to get through them. Which makes those comments by Benson all the more funny.

But I can honestly say that I was more skeptical about the guy than negative.
2024: Maybe there's some hope?
