What about something simple like Hassell/SWAT for Morris Peterson?
NO sheds some money, we get a starting SF for us, since he's better than Simmons. Scores more consistently, better defender and can knock down the open 3s that Simmons keeps clanking. Peterson can play the 2/3 along with Hayes. Simmons is a backup 3 now, probably where he belongs. Yes, we lose SWAT but Swift is playing better. The more Swift plays, the higher his stock rises (hopefully) and he could be used in a deadline deal with someone else like Simmons.
Thoughts?

Re: Trade Thought
I'm really not too concerned with trying to be a 1st or 2nd round out. I'll pass on this.
Unless there is a deal that we can't refuse, I am 100% fine with seeing where this roster takes us. If we make the playoffs, hell I'd laugh but it shows that our team has heart and may start perking up some free agents that want to be "the last piece of the puzzle." If we miss the playoffs, I'd be happy with the strides we made this year with the young team plus we'll get a lottery pick and hopefully land James Harden and go from there.
I really don't see the point of making a deal right now unless it's sending Sean or Josh down to Memphis for a back up PG or if we get an offer we literally can't refuse.
p.s. other reason I wouldn't care about this deal, Mo Pete's contract is 1 more year longer than Trenton's. We'll have to make a few more moves to get the cap space back. That makes it a deal killer to me because Mo doesn't make our team a contender.

Re: Trade Thought
I don't hate this trade, but I don't even like it, let alone love it.
Doesn't do that much for us.
I would do it as a follow up trade if we made some un-fore-seen blockbuster for a PF.

Re: Trade Thought
Upgrading the SF spot is not a priority at all. Does it make much of a difference doing so?
We have a lot of new players and a lot of young kids. We are lucky that the team chemistry is as good as it is so quickly. Why stir up anything unnecessarily and disturb this progress (unless it's a Kidd-DH kind of deal)?
That being said, an upgrade at backup PG is helpful as long as it is a minor trade.

My sole purpose of the trade idea was this exactly. I know it's still early, but the way to attract and continue to improve is to surround these youngsters with solid veterans who can help their games. Mo Peterson is proven and is an UPGRADE over our current SF - our team gets better. It may not be a blockbuster on paper, or a very attractive deal, but it's improvement.

Really? You put upgrade in capitals? Maybe 5 years ago I would have put upgrade in capitals. Besides being a little better outside shooter, Jarvis Hayes is just as good as him. This is a lateral move, doesn't make us THAT much better, we add salary in the year we need it plus lose Sean Williams in the process. If we were getting Julian Wright back and giving them Ager as well, I may be more inclined since I'd want a young guy back in return if we lose Swat.
Yes, making the playoffs with a young team does make free agent's mouth's water, but nobody is gonna be like "oh man Mo Pete on the Nets now? I thought they would be fun to play with but Ize Gotz To Playz Wit Mo Pete!" Trust me, if we make the playoffs with the current team, which is a distinct possibility, it'll be more impressive to potential free agents. We don't need to make this change really. If we were talking about the 09/10 season, you'd have a fair argument, but this really isn't a deal that is totally necessary. If we miss the playoffs it's ok this year. We're making noise, people are noticing. If we miss out this season, oh well. Thorn isn't gonna make a trade that makes us only marginally better than we are right now.
Again, it's not a bad deal, but this isn't gonna make free agents jump for joy. I say no cause we will need more moves to keep the 2010 cap space open. I'm more than willing to take on salaries now and kill that idea, but I'd expect a player better than Mo Pete to be the reason we lose that cap space.

I will agree that if you can get Julian Wright in a deal that would be great!!!!!!
I think Mgmt will look closely by January to make a deal if we are 7-10 games above 500. Which is very possible!
Get a veteran or a reaching prospect for third PG.
Definite young player for SF.
Here is my short list:
John Salmons
Francisco Garcia
Brevin Knight
Jason Hart.

Which is exactly why Jarvis should be starting. I said Mo-Pete is an upgrade over Simmons. I actually had Julian Wright in the deal and took him out. Hornets wouldn't do the deal if they added Wright. We'd have a logjam at SG/SF then. No one else on the team interests me outside of David West.
Don't twist my words.. I never said free agents would come because we got Mo-Pete. I said free agents would be more likely to look at us because of WINNING, not because of that one player.

Enough with the trades unless it's a deal for VC that blows us away. Other then that forget the small deals they're not gonna bring us a championship so lets watch the season play out and see what this team can do.

Re: Trade Thought
Hayes should not be starting unless CDR proves himself worthy of big minutes and healthy, Hayes is a needed scoring punch and energy off the bench for now.
Mo Pete barely makes us better and like Prelude and DRM said, no need at all to mess with chemistry or cap room for a very marginal upgrade.
BTW, we are already winning now, so FAs are already taking notice.
A move I would love, which would never happen would be Sean Williams and a protected pick for Travis Outlaw.
He significantly upgrades our lineup at the 3 and he is young (24) with skills and still has real potential for some growth, plus he plays very good defense.
He would have to be resigned before the FA period, but he is a guy who would be worth it, wouldn't be to expensive and has no problems coming off the bench as long as he gets big minutes, which he deserves, by the way.
