There may be some hope for my 3-4 dream, I am hearing the name Mike Nolan being floated around and he is definitely a 3-4 guy, has ties when MM was his offensive coordinator.

I'll take Nolan if he doesn't wear tuxedos to each game.

I'd be fine with hiring Nolan and i've wanted Sanders gone for awhile, but if that ends up happening and we also switch to the 3-4 defense, i just hope fans don't get to excited and assume that the defense will get good just because this switch at coordinator is made.

Coaching and schemes of course matters in football, but for the most part, it's the talent on the field that makes schemes look good or bad. Sanders obviously isn't the most creative defensive coordinator out there, but the glaring lack of talent on the defensive line and lack of playmakers at LB certainly didn't help Sanders either. Nolan himself had success coaching defense for the Ravens, but in his three season with the 49ers, their defenses finished 32nd/26th/25th. Nolan didn't instantly get stupid after taking over in San Fran, he just had less talent to work with.

While i think a change at defensive coordinator is nearly inevitable and very warranted, the biggest need on that side of the ball is better players among the front seven and depth overall.

I hate to say it, but McCarthy has to go. For being a supposed West Coast Guru, he knows very little about what makes the system effective. What he is doing is running the shotgun spread, and poorly at that. We are either in the power I (running 95% of the time), or the shotgun spread (passing 95% of the time and 100% of the time we run it with no running backs). Maybe he should get an actual Guru to come in and call the offensive plays, but since that is his supposed specialty - I see no reason to keep him around.

This offense has the pieces to be dominant. We may need some cogs replaced on the offensive line, but there is no reason that our offense is as useless as it has shown.

As far as personnel...

We need at least 1 dominant offensive lineman, and hopefully 2.

We need another dominant defensive lineman. Hopefully a defensive end like Kampman that is strong against the run and the pass.

A linebacker that plays like a man. Desmond Bishop came in and made 2 plays that I have not seen all season from any other linebacker. He went into the backfield and lit up a running back on 3rd and short, and he forced a fumble in the red zone on a man that he was not covering. His pass defense abilities are weak, but he brings the energy the defense needs. We need a playmaking weak side linebacker.

If McCarthy opts for the change in January, there are at least three obvious candidates he’d surely consider as replacements: Winston Moss, the linebackers coach whom McCarthy promoted to an assistant head coach in 2007 so no team could hire him as a coordinator; Mike Nolan, the recently fired San Francisco 49ers head coach who hired McCarthy as his offensive coordinator in 2005; and Jim Haslett, the St. Louis Rams’ interim head coach who is likely to be available this offseason, and for whom McCarthy was offensive coordinator with the New Orleans Saints from 2000-04.

If Nolan is brought in I almost have to think he brings a 3-4 hyrbid with him.

Over the last 2 years only 5 of our 20 draft picks have been on defense. And only one (Bishop) has contributed anything.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Desmond Bishop has contributed more than Aaron Rouse?

Yeah I guess Rouse has done well but he's faded this season. After his solid game against Indy he's had 12 tackles in 6 games. They've chosen to move Woodson instead of starting him.

I wish TT would spend some money on the O-Line for once. TT is so tight with money you couldn't pull a pin form his ass with a John Deere Tractor.

We need a Left Tackle Real Bad as well as a Saftey that plays "Smart".

The D- Line is a joke right now. I'd like to see a Hybrid D-line / Linebacker who can play rush end to complement Kampman and make our Defense look like its from the 21st century.

And then there's the middle of the D-Line; How many wishes do I get?

Another Running Back would be nice too while I'm at it.
