Deng needs a fresh start. Deng, Foye, Love, and Jefferson is a great core. Hughes will bring defense and is also capable of playing pg (meaning less minutes with tiny Telfair on the court). I know most of you would not want him on the team but he has said all he wants to do is have fun and that is what this team is now about with McHale taking over.

The Bulls probably regret resigning Deng for so much with the year he is having. Hughes has said he wants to start and they have too many talented guards for that to happen. They would have more money for this coming offseason and also for 2010. Having Rose will make Chicago very attractive for free agents.

Some people really like Deng. I've honestly not seen enough of him to know. Stat wise he is under performing.

I don't know if this trade addresses the problems we have.

I used to be a fan of Deng and would have done this trade without thinking twice, but the way he is performing lately he isn't, and wasn't before worth how much he is making. Don't get me started on Hughes, he is overated, takes as bad of shots as McCants, paid way too much.

I think the Wolves should just wait things out and see if they can get a great player. They have plenty of 1sts to offer over the next couple, tons of cap space coming off the books to use in trades, and a few good role players

Call me crazy, but I would rather have Miller than Deng and thus I say no to this deal. Trading for Deng would essentially mean giving up on Brewer and leaving us without a starting caliber shooting guard for the foreseeable future. Most importantly Miller provides shooting, something this team sorely needs around our half-court post oriented game. At the very least, in a similar deal I would want a SF with a hire ceiling than Deng.

Trading for Deng would essentially mean giving up on Brewer and leaving us without a starting caliber shooting guard for the foreseeable future. Agreed. If we had another shooter like Miller I think we would have to consider it tho.

ever the optimist, I feel like Deng is just having a down year so far and is bound to break out, perhaps a new team will help him out.

Hughes is actually having a pretty good year, 27 minutes, 1.4 steals, 45% shooting, 47% 3 point shooting, iced the Knicks w/ a clutch 3 with under a minute to play - Wolves could use a guy that can put points on the board w/ under a minute to play, I know that for sure. And his contract ends soon enough, he'd be an asset in the mean-time. We have literally nothing at SG, Hughes is actually an upgrade.

Who is the starting caliber shooting guard on the team now? Deng and Brewer don't have the range that Miller does but they both can defend SGs much better than Miller. Plus the only things the team would need is a backup sg that can hit threes and defend (sorry McCants) and an athletic big man. I would say between the role players with good contracts and 1st rounders the Wolves would have tools to get another trade done. Or they can keep the picks and see what the draft brings.

I just don't think you can make this trade for a guy having a down year, we can speculate if he could come around or not. I just don't know, you would think getting a pg as good as Rose would help your game get even better, its really hard to understand whats up with him. In my opinion if we are gonna be trading away all this cap space we should be getting a guy playing an up year lol

I follow Da Bulls in addition to the Wolves, and am among many Bulls fans who is down on Deng. He just doesn't seem to have improved his game over the years. Tons of ability, so worth a shot under the right circumstances, but this doesn't seem quite it. Nice effort, though, as the Bulls could really use MM and even Collins. And any minutes on the court shared by Cardinal and Nocioni could be fun to see in terms of number of floor burns per possession.

Hughes is a decent player who is overpaid given his injury history, so he makes sense as a salary dump - I think he expires next year (too lazy to look).

That fact that Deng is having a off year is the only reason the Bulls might consider this. If this was Deng of the past couple years it would take more than saving money and Mike Miller to get him. This the way the Wolves should use their cap space. They will get better players by trading it than trying to sign free agents. They would have more cap space to shop next season with Hughes.

I agree on all counts. I am not a huge Hughes fan, but I think he'd be fine at SG with Deng at SF or spending limited time at PG. I also think Deng is versatile enough to play SG with Gomes at SF. I don't think it's giving up on Corey Brewer either, not that that would be my main criteria in evaluating a trade.
