Should Kerr Trade Shaq?
Hey guys,
I was just thinking about this recently and I wanted to get everybody's opinions about it:
1) Should Kerr trade Shaq?
Let's face it, the move hasn't worked out so far. He was brought in to help the Suns finally get past the Spurs and stop Tim Duncan, and instead they got knocked out in 5 games in the first round and was BADLY outplayed by Duncan.
Then, the team is continuing to struggle this year and the team is frustrated that Porter isn't letting them run more. The reason? Shaq.
If Shaq is gone, Porter would have NO CHOICE but to let the team run and this team is built for running.
Shaq is playing well this year, so I think a team would like to have him.
Plus, if Phoenix continues to struggle, he might become a locker-room cancer like he did in Miami towards the end of his time there and it might be time to get rid of him while he still has some value and before things get worse.
Besides, the team blew out the Pistons with Shaq not playing in the second half and beat the Jazz when he didn't play in the 4th quarter.
I believe this team is better WITHOUT Shaq because he slows everything down (for the worse) and this team should be playing up-tempo with all the great athletes on the team.
Shaq is not a good fit for this team and I think it's time to trade him .
Agree? Disagree?

No. You're not going to get a good run and gun piece back for him, so there's no point trading him and trying to go all SSOL.
D'Antoni showed that this hybrid thing can work, and we kinda did it against Utah too. Shaq's not the problem; our coaching staff and our GM is.
Oh, and Sarver's the antichrist, forgot about that.

Shaq's contract expires at the end of the 09-10 season, the Suns will have 20 milion in cap space when it comes off the books.

Re: Should Kerr Trade Shaq?
The problem is that Shaq slows down the game so much that it goes against the team's strength which is to run.
Porter calls too many plays for him and if he's traded, there won't be that problem anymore.
Barnes said after the loss to the Hornets that the Suns "are a running team."
Diaw said after the win against Utah that "we played at a good tempo"
Barnes said he liked the 4th quarter line-up against the Jazz two days ago.
What's important about that? Shaq didn't play in the 4th quarter.
This team is better WITHOUT him (even though he's played well) and I think it's time to trade him.

Re: Should Kerr Trade Shaq?
Honestly, what are we going to get back? Marbury? No thank you. I think he has played well. They can be a running team with shaq in the game. We saw it with KT and we saw it with Jabbar back in the day. We need someone to rebound, and that is shaq. We are not being outrebounded like we used to be which is important.
Last is, its not shaq, its the coaching staff, its the make up of the players. This is not the 04/05 team of hybrid players that were athletic and good shooters. We do not have that as much anymore.
There is so much that is wrong with this organization, getting rid of one player is not going to help. Plus, his contract is a big attraction for 09/10.

I think it's more like "could"
The only packages that seem to be possibly available are either
Marbury
Dampier + Stack
Curry + some other junk
Amare

Eww Curry.
I'd honestly look into Damp + Stack though.

I don't think this should be placed solely on Shaq's shoulders. Amare is a beast on offense but is a horrid defender. He can't guard the premier PF's in the NBA. And without Shaq he struggles just to stay on the floor. Also not one person on the team understands how to feed the post. I've seen Shaq get deep position and his team mates can't figure out how to get him the ball. Also they get manhandled on the boards when Shaq is not on the floor. Also there is no excuse for the turnovers we have seen in these games, just stupid mistakes. Everywhere Shaq has been he has made the game easier for his team mates but for whatever reason these guys can't figure it out.

Precisely. The abitlity for Kerr to pull off any deal involving Shaq would require him to put on a Robe, Staff, Sandals, and of course grow a beard. Even if Shaq demanded a trade, it would be practically impossible to accomodate with out absorbing more deadweight.
Shaq is doing exactly what was anticipated and requested. We want to get better, other changes need to be made.
What ? Me Worry ?

Agreed. Shaq's not the problem, and OP, you were just saying that the blame would be unfairly placed on Shaq just a few days ago. It seems as though you are doing the same thing.

I think most Bulls fans would do Hinrich and Gooden for Shaq. Would you guys do that if Shaq was on the block?

Don't think so, we'd want a big man that can replicate his recent dominant post production

None of this is Shaq's fault really. I blame it all on coaching.

Re: Should Kerr Trade Shaq?
As noted on this board many times, we can certainly run with Shaq - and he's on record saying he wants to - and he adds a great deal to the team, even in his twilight years. The Big Guy is not our problem right now.

Re: Should Kerr Trade Shaq?
Seeing how well the team played WITHOUT Shaq against the Magic yesterday, do more people agree with me that Kerr should trade him?
The team plays MUCH better when they run and Lopez runs the floor much faster than Shaq does.
