The Phoenix Suns have completed a deal with the Charlotte Bobcats to acquire high-scoring swingman Jason Richardson, according to NBA front-office sources.
The multiplayer deal will require the Suns to part with forward Boris Diaw and defensive ace Raja Bell, two mainstays from the team that averaged 58 wins over the last four seasons under former Suns coach Mike D'Antoni.
The Suns will also receive a future second-round pick from the Bobcats and forward Jared Dudley while sending Sean Singletary to the Bobcats.
Crazy stuff.....I'm shocked in both a good and bad way - On the negative, the defensive goodness of Bell will be missed, while moving Diaw is a good move - he's shown he hasn't been able to get to a consistent level of play that is beyond what he provided the last 2 seasons, so I think it's time to move on. Bell wasn't happy with the system and the looks that he was/wasn't getting, and his defensive game looks to have taken a hit too, so while he'll be missed, I think it's good that he's gone.
As far as Jason Richardson is concerned, I'm guessing it's partly about salary reasons and winning now - adding his offense is going to be very solid - but how will he stack up with Amare/Shaq as far as touches is concerned? This brings back memories of a Joe Johnson type in Phoenix, shooting that outside ball and providing that extra scoring option when one of the bigs aren't getting it going.
Also, we are thin in the frontcourt now, with Lopez the only backup to Amare/Shaq - unless Lou starts to get more minutes?
With the further movement of Singletary, Kerr has made it clear that Dragic is the mainstay backup now. I wonder if that will help lift his game. As far as Barbosa and Tucker, I wonder what happens minutes wise with them? How does LB fit with J-Rich? Maybe Porter will be forced to play Dragic & Barbosa at the guards with J-Rich at SF at times? I'm pretty sure Richardson is going to effect Barbosa's role now.....
As far as Jared Dudley, eww, even though I haven't seen him play, I don't like the Dud - maybe good as Shaq's whipping boy at practices?
So many more thoughts.....i think I'll personally cover them on the next episode of Run N Gun.
