Putz To Mets, F. Gutierrez To Seattle In Discussed Three-Way Deal?

FoxSports - J.J. Putz could be headed to the Mets in a three-team trade with the Mariners and Indians, according to major-league sources.

Mets right-hander Aaron Heilman, outfielder Endy Chavez and first-base prospect Mike Carp would be in the deal, as would Indians outfielder Franklin Gutierrez. [READ]

While I hate to give up Joe Smith which is the rumored player now, you have to go for this. Getting JJ Putz as a setup man would be great. Now to go get Fuentes or Street for the seventh...

LOL this guy i used to work with is a mariners fan..hes prob tearing his hair out as we speak.

i love the trade sucks we get rid of 2 of my fav mets but to get rid of heilman it was so worth it

Yeah its known that Heilman is the main piece in the trade, but does anyone actually know who the other players are? Id assume its either Smith or Carp along with Endy. However who really cares or knows, Heilman will be gone. Its a shame because the dude was a workhorse for us, but my oh my how people soured on him.

i think Putz is done but I like Jeremy Reed, the guy is a late bloomer me thinks

i hope we dont have to give up Smith, he was the best reliever we had last year

Putz had a terrible 2008 season -- one plagued by injury -- but he rebounded in the second half. Obviously, as a setup man, he loses pretty much all of his Fantasy appeal except in deeper Rotisserie leagues. He doesn't seem particularly thrilled about it either. "He's one of the top five or 10 closers in the game," his agent, Craig Landis, said. "No, he would not want to be a setup man." Obviously, if you planned to target Putz on Draft Day as a potential bounceback closer, start making other plans.

I'm concerned that Putz won't be happy in a setup role. On the one hand, if he does bounce back, he's a valuable trade chip, but then who's our 8th inning guy.

A great tallent, but I question if he'll accept his role as a setup man.

Sean Green (not to be confused with Shawn), is a servicable bullpen guy. Better against Lefties than Joe Smith, not as good against Righties. I assume he doesn't break down the way smith does. Too early to say if he's better/worse than Smith but he fits in as a usable bullpen guy nicely.

Doesn't give up a lot of home runs and he's a ground ball pitcher, which should work better in NY. I like the Green Addition.

Jeremy Reed: This is a guy who went 3 for 26 against lefties last year and he's got a career 157 average and 433 ops against lefties. So he's very much a situational player. Some have said his defense is good, others say it's soso, but as a defensive replacement, he fills in for Endy well enough.

Doc, maybe you know more about this guy than I do. I think he has a fight on his hands just to make the team. Right now, it's between him and Pagan, and if the mets acquire an outfielder, he becomes a longshot.



Also, Doc, if Putz is done, this was an awful trade. Mets give up quantity, not quality (translation - they don't give up much) but they do this trade for Putz. Green is a lateral move and Reed isn't much.
