JJ PUTZ TRADED TO THE METS!!!!!

The Seattle Mariners sent right-handed reliever J.J. Putz to the New York Mets on Wednesday night as part of a three-team, nine-player trade with the Cleveland Indians.
The blockbuster deal, which is the first for Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik, was confirmed on Wednesday night by a Major League official.

The Mariners receive right-handed pitcher Aaron Heilman, outfielder Endy Chavez and first baseman Mike Carp from the Mets, along with outfielder Franklin Gutierrez from the Indians.

Are you serious? OMG, that's **** awesome.

We don't need that bitchy Heilwoman and although I liked Endy, he's getting old and will always come off the dug-out. This is a fantastic deal.

fake, putz had an injury year but finished strong. besides, his worst year last year would've helped the mets ... a lot

sean green who's like smith a groundball special has given up 7 homeruns in 179 innings for his career, that's awesome.

You cant be mad about this trade at all. However I would love to see how the Mets can possibly collapse this year, man its going to be scary.

more info for fake, putz had a 5.2 era in the first half and a 2.9 era in the second half.

and sean green had a 2.8 era in the first half before falling apart.

this is clearly omar best trade as a met gm, yes even better than santana because he gave up basically nothing.

carp wasn't the best 1b prospect the mets have ... it's ike davis, heck murphy may move to 1b in 2010.

chavez/reed is a wash

i like joe smith but he's a roogy, mets are filled with roogy's/loogy's and that's why they were bad.

Crazy deal.. Gotta love it. After a relatively quiet off season last year (aside from Santana) Omar is back in mixologist mode. Hey, if we collapse this year at least we won't be able to blame the pen.. Though I doubt we'll be able to blame the lineup either seeing as how we'll get one of Manny or Ibanez, and possibly O-Dog..

Let's hope Castillo is the next to go!

But this is a positive move, especially moving Heilmann.

Nice going, Omar. Now go get us another starter, a corner outfielder, and figure out something at second base. Our pen is infinitely better now.

Endy's a fan favorite but he was so under utilized by the Mets. It was only proper that he gets his chance to be a regular starting outfielder with another ballclub.

Ah, didn't see this thread - wrote a reply in the other one.

Putz is just 1 year removed from being an allstar and 40 save guy in the pen. Anyone have any read on how he's taking his "set up" role?

and how is his last name pronounced?

is it Putz and in "you're a putz"

or is it pronounced PUtz - like Puke, but with a tz instead of a k.

I'll bet he was teased all the time in school. Poor guy.

On the surface, it seems like the Mets raped the M's, but if you look a bit more closely, it seems that Cleveland was willing to give up a pretty good OF prospect basically for a defensive 2nd baseman and Joe Smith.

Cleveland gave up value to fill in 2 positions and maybe save some money - not sure exactly what their thinking was.

essentially, I don't know what Heilman is, he gave us 2 good seasons, some very shaky outings and a bad season last year. But I think, the M's didn't do this deal for Heilman, they did it for Franklin Gutierrez, who will probably be their every day Center Fielder and who's got a shot at being the best player of this 12 player trade.

This is what the Marriner's fan/blogger has to say about the met's "throw ins"

Note: we're also receiving Maikel Cleto, Ezequiel Carrera, and Jason Vargas. Vargas is a soft-throwing lefty starter with middling stuff and extreme flyball tendencies. Carrera's a speedy center fielder who hasn't seen AA. Cleto's an untested low-minors teenager, so expect to hear him referred to as a "live arm". Interesting players, the lot of them, but none of them guarantees. Zduriencik seems excited by Carrera and Cleto and I'm happy to defer to him on this sort of stuff.

I agree. Vargas is trash at this point. The other 2 guys, I'd never heard of them, but the Mariners felt they were worth something. Single A prospects with some potential.
