What do you guys think of Stephen Curry?

Post#1 » by madmaxmedia » Wed Dec 10, 2008 7:05 pm

I'm not worrying about the draft yet, but I watched a bit of last nite's Davidson game. Curry moving to PG makes him a pretty bonafide NBA prospect IMO. People are complementing his ball-handling and ability to try to balance between scoring and passing (of course everyone knows that Davidson will only go as far as Curry takes him.) The season is still young, so Curry the PG is still a work in progress of course.

He's really active off the ball and has an absolutely flawless shot (that takes almost no space to get off.) And he has won so many games in the clutch for his team, especially during their Elite 8 run last year.

I don't know if the Clippers would draft him, or where Curry would go in comparison to other guys, etc. I just was wondering what you guys thought of him in general. I think he's a very special, special player whose abilities should translate well to the NBA as a 1/1.5. Of course he will need to be able to play the 1 a lot in the NBA, as he is too small to play 2.

EDIT- I forgot the absolute level of awesomeness he displayed in their tourney run last year-

On March 21, 2008, Davidson matched up with seventh seeded Gonzaga University. Despite Gonzaga being ahead by as many as 11 points early in the second half of this game, Curry scored 30 points in that half to push Davidson to their first NCAA Tournament win since 1969, 82–76. Curry ended up with 40 points, going 8 for 10 from 3 point range, drawing praise from around the nation for his performance.

On March 23, 2008, Davidson played second seeded Georgetown University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown entered the game as a heavy favorite after an appearance in the Final Four in 2007 and holding a number eight national ranking. Curry was held to only five points in the first 26 minutes of the game, and his team trailed by 17 points at that point. However, Curry scored 25 points in the final 14 minutes to push Davidson to a stunning 74–70 win and even more praise for his performance from around the nation.

On March 28, 2008, Curry led Davidson to another upset against third seeded Wisconsin. With NBA superstar LeBron James in attendance, Curry scored 33 points over his defender Michael Flowers, who was considered one of the best in the nation. Davidson easily won 73–56, advancing the school to the Elite 8 for the first time since 1969

I've been watching this kid for a couple of years, he's amazing. But he plays a very similar position as Eric Gordon. I don't see us drafting him. I hope we have our eyes on Thabeet from UCONN.

Curry is an unbelievable shooter. He shoots a high percentage from the field and 3PT. He is similar to Gordon - less athletic, but a better shooter and ball handler.

Why do we need another center? The last thing we need on this team is another player in the frontcourt. What we need to concentrate on for the upcoming draft is some backcourt help, preferably a PG. Mike Taylor just isn't going to cut it for this team as a backup PG. Ricky Rubio, Brandon Jennings, and Jrue Holiday should be all in the Clippers radar. Thankfully, this draft is loaded with guards.

One word: deadly.

Reminds me a lot of Reggie Miller.

Too much like Eric though he has that clutch factor but still he is in college.

We either need a SF or PF. Camby may be traded next seaon or will leave anyway when his contract is up so getting a PF who can defend and score can help. Also P.Davis and Skinner's contracts are up after this season and I'm not sure if they will re-sign. As for SF we need a pure defender who can also get it down on the perimeter.

Then why did we draft EJ?

No more clones please.

I think we need to just work on our bench. Our starting 5 is pretty good, it's our bench team that kills us in games most of the time. Taylor still needs some time to develop. He hasn't looked too good lately compared to earlier in the season. Ricky will probably be gone after this season.. or the next(i dont remember if he signed a 1 or 2 year deal). So we'll still need some help at SG. If we're going to keep all 3 big guys then we don't have to worry too much about our front court. All 3 guys can still see around 30 mins each if the rotation is right.

I like Curry as a player and think he is very fun to watch. Like Hubie Brown once said, he has icing in his veins. . As far as being on the Clippers' radar, it all depends where we draft and who's on the board at that time. If he or Gordon were to grow a couple inches, then it would be an intriguing addition. A 4-man backcourt rotation of 6'3" players is not the business.

1 year with 2nd year player option. I think he'll have to play much better than how he started the season or he's going to end up exercising that option.

Icing in his veins? Are you talking about Curry or Randolph?

Last year in the Laker/Jazz series Korver knocked down a pair clutch free-throws, and that was Hubie's response.

Yeah, he's not exactly the best fit for the Clippers. But I really like the guy, so was just curious what others thought. Instead of competing with EJ, it looks like Curry might be able to cut it at PG in the NBA. And we obviously already have one of those.
