Kruk said now that Peavy to Cubs is dead, Peavy needs to expand the number of teams he's willing to go to ... winning teams.
What about Pelfrey and FMart or Murphy for Peavy and a prospect?

Honestly Id rather hold onto Pelfrey and Martinez. Yeah I know that sounds a little crazy, but I want to be able to root for the homegrown players, in addition to Wright and Reyes. We have all waited for Pelfrey to arrive and last year he really improved, I believe he will keep improving. Martinez I just want to see in the big leagues, I want to catch the mania. Though since he is an OF that does scare me, but I still want him. As far as Peavy goes combining him Santana would just be filthy, but is it realistic? I believe he didnt want to come to New York to begin with.

MP, with all due respect, I'm not going through another year like the last two. Besides, we have enough "homegrowns" on the team already. We can let Niese be the 5th starter. And Parnell is going to be a mainstay in the bullpen. How's that? And of course, there is Reyes and Wright. Also, at least we're not the Hankees who are throwing money around like it's water. We're doing it responsibly and through trades ("Old School").
If Peavy waives his no trade to NY, Omar must see if we're a match. SD Gm Kevin Towers is under orders from team ownership to trim payroll from $75 million to $40 million. Peavy is set to make $11 million next year. That'll be about 1/4 of the teams entire salary devoted to one player. The Padres will not have a lot of bargaining power. This is the 2007 NL Cy Young Award winner we're talking about. This guy's stuff is NASTY!!!! Can you imagine Santana/Peavy/Maine/Perez/NIese?

I don't see this team paying for both Peavy and Perez. One or the other, but not both.
Pelfrey would be the obvious guy to trade for him. As far as the throw in prospects, that's a tough call. If Omar can get a bargain, then I say "go for it", but if the asking price is too high, I like Pelfrey and having a farm system is imporant.

Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.

FMart may, or may not, be the player he is projected to be. But, so far, in the minor leagues he's done nothing impressive much less the major leagues. Right now, in his career, he's even having trouble staying on the field because of injuries. So, he could just as easily be the next Alex Escobar as the next ... I don't know, Tori Hunter, or whatever.
Our time to win is now. You never now when this window of opportunity will come again.

I don't know if these talks are dead, i haven't been paying as much attention to the winter talks as ususal, but I was saying to a friend that we should go after Peavy.
