Patrick O'Bryant's Hook Shot

Post#1 » by return2glory » Fri Dec 12, 2008 8:02 pm

I don't know how many of you saw POB's hook shot last night. It was a thing of beauty. It was impressive. He looked smooth and took it up strong. That was the best looking hook shot I've seen since Kareem's hook.

I know everyone has been disappointed in POB so far. We all know he needs to get stronger. But if he can devolope that hook shot, he will be a player in this league. He already has a smooth shot from about 15-17 feet. With our strenght and conditioning coaches and Clifford Ray, POB is in the right place.

I hope he sticks around because he has a chance to be a very look player in a year or two. I look for some improvements out of him in the 2nd half of the season.

i was impressed with big baby's jump hook. it would be nice if he could develop that into a go to post move. it would be pretty hard to block and he has the strength to keep his body between the ball and the defender. if he could become more comfortable with such a shot it would give him a move that would minimize his decencies playing close to the basket.

he finally hit a jumper, too. i was real impressed with davis last night.

Not me...an OK game out of a mediocre career (to date) and especially this season, still has me severely down on him...
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

POB hook is gonna be mean but it looks like he is a punk on the fllor. Kid is young but he is getting abused in the paint but he will be a beast if KG and Perk push him around enough and get feed up with it. There is no way in the NBA a pure 7 footer should be behind a 6' 6" and a 6' 8" powerfwrd, He so far looks like he has the skill base but he looks soft!. I hope he gets that nastyness a big should have in the paint we can be even better using baby as a spark plug but not as a back up 4. Think of it this way, Use Powe and POB as the back up bigs. Powe will bang with anyone and use his muscle and POB use his height and block shots. Powe can be that low post threat and POB as a pick and pop big with house, or move him out to the 15-17 feet so TA can get to the rack with the other Teams center D'ing up POB for that sweet J. WOW he can really make a differnce to our bench but we need this kid to step up big time!

POB's Hook Shot....will continue to be one of the most anticipated events of garbage time.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

His hook shot won't get him any playing time. He needs to play good defense and rebound. He looked more active yesterday(and during games he's always up and cheering on the bench which is a good sign that he's trying to shed the lazy/uncaring label), but he still had at least 1 defensive rebound wrestled away from him and got an offensive foul in his short 6 minute stint. I actually have some hope for POB, but for next year rather then this year. He needs to put on some bulk and you can't really do that midseason. But as N-V-da-Green said, a Powe/POB tandem coming off the bench could work pretty well as their skills complement each other.

I remember him shooting 1 or 2 in preseason, but that one last night was probably the prettiest. You should see O'Bryant in the layup line sometimes, he looks like he's DR. J sprinkled with Shawn Kemp, with the type of dunks he pulls off. He threw one off the top of the backboard and tomahawked it from just inside the free throw line the other night. The thing that is strange about O'Bryant is that his body, coordination, and skill level, isn't what's holding him back at all. It's just that he doesn't seem to keep his intensity level up enough during the game.

^^^ LOL
Maybe in a couple years POB will make it up to Glen Davis level because right now he's downright terrible (though he does seem to try). Don't get me wrong it makes a hell of a lot of sense to keep him around but the dude is a trade chip, I'm nearly certain of that. IF by next season he can contribute as a 9th or 10th man off the bench you could potentially sucker some team into giving the C's a player/or pick of more substantial value.

How come players stopped using the sky hook anyways?

POB's advertised move was the sky-hook before he got drafted. I remember the first time i saw him was in summer league where he hit one from about 14 feet baseline.

If he can ever be a good defender, he'll be a player.

Alot of debate about this - I think its kinda of slow setting up and vunerable to help defense..
