So our current rotation right now...

1.) Sabathia
2.) Wang
3.) Burnett
4.) Joba
5.)

Does the team put a young arm in for that 5th spot, re-sign Andy, or go after Sheets or Lowe?

I'd be shocked to not see Andy back.

They will sign one of Andy-Sheets-Lowe for slot number 4... chances are itll be between Sheets and Andy. Joba/hughes/kennedy will share the fifth spot. I think if hughes will take spot 5 and thatll slot joba back in the pen... thats just my opinion tho...

The last spot will come down to Pettitte, Sheets, or Hughes/Aceves. I don't see the Yankees getting into another long-term contract with a pitcher like Lowe, so it will be a 1 yr deal with Pettitte if they can agree on the dollar amount or maybe 2 years for Sheets.

Its certainly a risky signing, but there is no reward without any risk. This is a guy who has spent 4 years in the AL East and led the AL in strikeouts last season, so he knows what he is getting into by coming here and we know what we are getting in him. I like the signing because of what he can do when healthy, which we saw last season.

Here are Burnett's game logs vs us last season:
4/2: 6 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 3 Ks
7/13: 8.1 innings, 6 hits, 1 runs, 8 Ks
8/19: 8 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 13 Ks
8/29: 8 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 8 Ks
9/24: 8 innings, 7 hits, 2 runs, 11 Ks

1.87 ERA, 30 hits and 43 Ks in 38.1 innings

Against Boston:
5/1: 7.2 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 5 Ks
8/24: 7 innings, 7 hits, 5 runs, 7 Ks
9/13: 6 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 6 Ks
9/19: 7 innings, 8 hits, 3 runs, 6 Ks

2.60 ERA, 21 hits and 24 Ks in 27.2 innings

Against Tampa Bay:
5/6: 6 innings, 9 hits, 5 runs, 10 Ks
7/18: 7 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 7 Ks
7/28: 7 innings, 6 hits, 0 runs, 10 Ks

3.15 ERA, 20 hits and 27 Ks in 20 innings

Career vs AL east (not counting Yankees, who he's dominated) 20-5, 3.29.
Career 5-0 vs Boston with a 2.56 ERA in 8 starts
Career 2.98 ERA vs Tampa in 117.2 innings (only 85 hits allowed)
And vs us he had a career 2.43 ERA in 77.2 innings

not that excited about burnett, but when you look at all the power arms the yanks have, and quality power arms, they are going to be in just about every game they play... When healthy , Burnett can be a beast..

I followed the Yankees intensely until 2004. After that, my watching steadily declined until I watched only 5ish games this past year. With the pitching they've brought up and in now, I'm excited about the upcoming season again!

Eh. I am a big fan of Burnett's stuff, but his inability to stay on the field has been a consistent throughout his career. We'll be lucky to get 20 starts from him a few of these 5 years.

Yeah there will be 2 years of this contract were he won't break 15 starts, but in the other years he can give us some really good depth of quality arms.

The Yanks are going to need a real clutch (in the playoffs, too) bat to complement A-Rod in a 3-4 punch. Jeter's still a good leader, a great defensive player, and a solid hitter, but his hitting's gone down steadily every year. There's not much out there that's in the Yanks grasp, considering that Bradley is more likely than not to sign with the Cubs, Ibanez signed with the Phillies, and the Yanks can't spend more money on a mega-deal with Teixeira.

Go look at his splits and tell me that again. He had a down year last year but his offense has not gone down steadily every season.

Jeter's offense has been fine, it is his defense that has steadily declined

This signing only makes sense after we got Sabathia, this gives us a really nice starting rotation.

We can go a couple routes, we can have Hughes Aceves and Kennedy in the pen or in AAA and put Joba in the rotation or have one of them start every 5th day. I think we will come to terms with Pettite as our 4th or 5th guy with one of them. A bat would be nice, Tex would be great if hes going to Boston, if hes staing in LA I dont know if its worth it.
Go Knicks!
