schoeneweis traded to the d'backs [metsblog]

Post#1 » by blueNorange » Sat Dec 13, 2008 12:43 am

The Mets have traded Scott Schoeneweis to the D’Backs for RHP Conor Robertson.

The 27–year-old Robertson was 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in nine games with Arizona this past season.

Robertson is 29-13 with a 2.82 ERA in 217 career-minor league games, during which he struck out 382 batters in 305 innings.

omar is removing the clowns.

Read on another thread, the Mets will pay 1.6 mil of his salary. It's a 2 million salary dump. Robertson can be stashed in the minors / called up as needed. Clearly it's a downgrade in talent, but it puts 2 million towards another signing and it changes the face of the Pen. Good move overall I think.

I would LOVE to get Manny, but I don't think he's on Omar's radar.

Lowe is possible. I think the Mets will acquire an Outfielder. Maybe Burrell :-) That would be interesting.

manny is on omar's radar, but he's not on the wilpons' radar.

burrell is a bum ... very streaky and a horror show in the outfield. murphy/tatis(should be evans) will be patroling left field for 2009.

mets don't want to go over last years payroll(137) and right now they have about 20 mill to spend. i say they get lowe since he doesn't really have a market as how the yanks already have a lot of pitchers, espically if pettite re-signs with them. omar needs to either get sheets, lowe, or re-sign perez because you can't go with a question mark in maine, a question mark in niese, and a crap 5th starter ... you need a #3 starter to go to war!

I can't support signing Lowe over Perez when Lowe will cost more money and is a 37 year old. He is just average, and has benefited from playing in the best pitcher's park in the NL (LA), and we have no idea how Citi Field is going to be. We know the dimensions would make it seem like it will be pitcher friendly, but you never will really know until Shea is completely down. I mean if Lowe would be fine with a 2 year deal I would do that, but what he is supposedly looking for is something Omar shouldn't offer. Perez is young, and has the potential to be very good. At worst he is a 4th starter, at best he could be our #2.

Though I also can't see how we aren't going after Manny. I can't believe we are banking on Tatis replicating what he did last year. We have fallen into this trap before, like when we were dependent on Valentin reproducing his rejuvenation, or Easley, etc... And I'd rather put Murphy at 2nd if he is capable and get Castillo off the field.

Manny puts us over the hump. And I feel his defense is underrated. He is a bad defender, but you can't tell me he is much worse than Dunn or Burrell, and IMO he is a better LF than Murphy who is just embarrassing.

I would also like us to go out and get Hoffman to pitch the 7th inning, because I am unsure if Sanchez ever gets back to the beast he was starting to look like before the taxi incident.
RIP Jared Jeffries. Gone but never forgotten...2006-2012

umm .. mets aren't playing tatis everyday ... only vs lefties. murphy is the starter.

lowe is 36, wants the same money perez is getting, and he's better than perez. perez does have potential to be good, he also has potential to be bad as how he's had 3 good seasons and 4 bad seasons in his career. that's not worth ace type money.

hoffman?? you talk about lowe being old but yet you wanna sign a 40 year old choke job??

mets are on a budget, they have about 20 million to spend.

I think we have to go strong for Manny, providing we can sign a solid middle of the rotation pitcher as well.. I'm sure our division is now looking at our bullpen completely different than they have the past 2 seasons, we need a bat in the middle of the order that will change opinions on our lineup, and right now Manny is the only realistic FA option that fits that bill..

Pass on Lowe, use the big money to spend on Sheets and take a flier on Daniel Cabrera to be our 5th starter...

Santana
Sheets
Pelfrey
Maine
Cabrera
Move Randle and we are chip ready !

I read on another board that Sheets is off the mets radar. The medical report on his arm is too risky.

It's Lowe or Ollie or a cheaper alternative, like Wolfe and probably someone else.

Everyday that pass the options get cheaper, there even talking about Milton or Garcia now. Tomorrow it will be Colon then after that it will be Sid Fernandez.

I don't really have a problem with the team looking at cheap options for the 5th starter. Niese probably isn't ready for the role from opening day.

If it's Garcia to replace Ollie, that's a little scary.

If we are going cheap for the 5th starter, we should really give a hard look to Daniel Cabrera. That kid is still young, and has some great stuff..
