Winter Classic Ad

Post#1 » by Posey H8er » Tue Dec 2, 2008 2:40 am

It was on NBC last night and was awesome. Kudos to the NHL for actually being smart with their media/advertising department for once.

I agree with everything the guy said in the article.

As a well-known Brewers fan...that ad kicks ass.

The NHL, since the lockout, has done a great job marketing the league, maybe the best of the Big 4. They have an outstanding balance of marketing teams and marketing players.

Have you seen the ridiculous prices people on stubhub are asking for tickets? Some people are asking for TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS per seat for lower deck.

If anyone pays even $1000 they should be forced to sit behind a pole for being so stupid.

That's like buying the Mark McGwire home run ball for $1,000,000 only to have it be worthless a few years later cause someone beat it. Within a couple years this game will be a yearly event.

Was thinking about the Winter Classic today since we are only 30 days away.

The whole Take me out to the Ballgame thing was cheesy but I guess as the article states they want to try and appeal to the casual fan.

They're talking about having Obama make an appearance for the game and maybe drop the puck. That would be awesome. I assume Mayor Daley would make an appearance too then to help get the Chicago Olympic bid more attention.

Considering the lower deck will be the worst place to actually see the game, that's one of the most absurd things I've seen.

I know, how great is it gonna be if some non hockey fan dumbass spends huge money for front row seats only to get there and find out he can't see half the ice over the boards.

Also, if anyone is thinking about buying tickets don't get bleacher seats. Those are probably the worst seats in the house. Go look on stubhub at the diagram of the rink/field and you'll see what I mean. The rink is all the way by home plate so that's pretty far from the bleachers.

What do you think are the best seats? I was thinking about 15-20 rows back about halfway down the first and third base line.

I wouldn't spend that much money on those tickets but I think just being there would be worth the money even if you couldn't see the action.

I would say the first few rows of sections 406-411 and 430-434. The reason the poles are such a problem at Wrigley is because the upper grandstands are pretty close to the field action. Up there you are still close yet you get an above view shot. I think the worst seats will be behind home plate.

*The 400 and 500 levels are the upper deck, and the 200 level is directly under those levels.

Man...just watch the Winter Classic on TV...

It's New Years Day...for God sake...and I'm gonna be hurtin' from hurtling unknown quantities of alcohol into my system...the night before...

A $1,000 for a ticket to sit in Wrigley Field...is truly a stupid, stupid thing to even consider...

If you were smart enough and get some season's tix this year...cool...enjoy the whole Wrigley Outdoor madness...

I just hope it snows 3 feet that day...like in Buffalo last year...that would be awesome...

I'm probably gonna be in Chicago for New Year's, and hoping the people I'm with will be interested in going to Wrigleyville to watch the game. I just wanna be there during the game, have Blackhawks fans wandering the streets and bars.

Weren't they going to add a temporary scoreboard behind the bleachers?

Hopefully there are more true Blackhawks fans than casual bandwagon fans who are going just for the moment. It would be amazing to show North America the Hawks are back with all of Wrigley cheering for the anthem.

Well since season ticket holders got most of the tickets, should be okay on this front. Sitting in the lower deck you will see nothing and the bleachers will be difficult, too. And I heard the videoboard would be going in left field somewhere.

The Winter Classic on Jan. 1, 2009, is steadily approaching. With the release of the artist's drawing of Wrigley Field decked out for hockey, let's take a virtual tour.

The rink is standard NHL size, but everything else fans will see once they enter Wrigley Field or watch the NHL Winter Classic on national television will be unique.

The 200-by-85-foot rink will be situated between first and third base.

The center-ice faceoff dot will measure exactly 112 feet from home plate and 288 feet from the center field wall. The penalty boxes will be precisely 9 feet behind the pitcher's mound.

Behind the team benches will be a 60-by-56-foot auxiliary rink constructed over the outfield grass. It will be used during the game by the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois. To the left and right of the auxiliary rink will be team logos that measure 40 feet long and 40 feet wide. Also draped on the outfield grass will be American and Canadian flags that measure 90-by-45-feet. There also will be batter's box logos of each team.

As far as seating, there are roughly 5,000 seats in the bleachers and another 35,000 stadium seats. Approximately 2,000 rooftop seats also are available, but those are sold by their owners, not the NHL.

The teams will enter the playing field via the dugouts and step up onto walkways that meet at home plate. The walkway will channel toward the rink and split so the players can enter the ice surface from doors located near their respective penalty boxes.

A roadway will also be built from the Zamboni tent, which is located in the right field corner, to the ice surface. The warning track will also be covered by a roadway.

A pair of video boards measuring 26-by-14-feet will be installed at each foul pole. Along with the main scoreboard above the center field bleachers, three video scoreboards also will be installed, one over the batter's eye in left-center field and two on ribbon boards beyond each set of end boards.

The broadcasters will call the game from a perch that will be built behind the team benches, between the auxiliary rink and the main rink. The studio booths for NBC, CBC and RDS will be spread throughout the outfield.

Going off the artist depiction does that mean NBC is guaranteeing snow on Jan 1 or are they bringing in a snow machine if it doesn't?

That's supposed to be snow right or am I seeing things wrong?

They won't make fake snow. If it snows it snows. They'd be beyond stupid to put fake snow on the ground.
