Michael Beasley vs Kevin Love

Post#1 » by Devilzsidewalk » Fri Dec 12, 2008 10:17 pm

would you trade Love for Beasley straight up?

Beasley:
27 mpg |.447 fg%| .348 3pt%| 5.2 reb |.67 stl |.52 blk| 2.0 TO |1.0 ast| 13.9 ppg |
PER 15.8 off / 21.5 def
7277 days old

Love:
24.3 mpg |.418 fg%| .100 3pt%| 7.8 reb| .48 stl |.62 blk| 1.38 TO| 1.2 ast | 9.3 ppg |
PER 17.9 off 18.5 def
7401 days old

edit: I also want to add Beasley's usage rate is 24.3 compared to 18.2 for Love when considering PPG as Beasley's usage rate is 33% higher; by the same token, their turnover rates are almost equal for the same reason

another edit: assist ratio too, I wanted to get that in there. Though their assists per game are very close, Love's assist ratio is almost 2x that of Beasley. It's got a lot to do with field goal attempts because Beasley has a 266 to 158 discrepancy in FG attempts over Love

I probably wouldn't trade Love for Beasley. He's another guy who's defense is suspect and needs to put up a ton of shots on offense in order to be effective. He has the higher ceiling but I like Love better for this team. All you need is Love..ba ba da da da

I'd do it straight up but if we had to give anything else like a pick or a talented player to miami I wouldn't do it...don't really like Beasley but he has the higher ceiling...

as I said pre draft. beasley only reaches his ceiling if he makes the transition to sf--focuses on defense and becomes a mello like first or second option.
I do not think he wants that.

love could be the 5th option focusing on rebounds high post passing and mid range jump shots. he can contribute in that way when beasley cannot.

higher bbiq better character...all you need is love.

I agree with Rev on this, Beasly will be a good PF. But he'd have to play the 3 in order to really shine. He may still develop into that sort of player who knows. I think the same can be said for Blake Griffin this year. Big enough to play the 4, and probably some 5. But athletic enough and enough lateral quickness to play\defend the 3. Beasly has much more polish, than Griffin obv but w\e.

Beasley's perceived trade value is higher than Love, so I'd trade for them straight up.

However, that does not mean I think Beasley is better, and your numbers demonstrate that. I'd want to trade Beasley elsewhere.

Beasley would be a better fit on the wolves then Love is - his athleticism would be a better complement for Jefferson. Since he's also larger than Love I don't know that he needs to transition to SF to reach his potential, but it is certainly a possibility for him, unlike Love. Ultimately Jefferson should play exclusively at PF, not a possibility with Love on the team, but perhaps it would be with Beasley. Really, this is not a difficult choice.

Tough call for me.

Beasley is more athletic, probably has higher upside, would fit better, and would put an end to the Mayo-Love trade threads. It would basically be trading Mayo for Beasley and Miller, which I think even the biggest hater would call a win by the Wolves.

On the other hand, I really like Love's game. He has a high BBIQ that will make him a great all-round player and likely a good defensive player even though he isn't the most athletic guy. He just seems like a "winner" and it's always good to have those guys on your team.

I guess I would hesitantly stick with Love. He and Jefferson are old school type players and I like that. We do need to get some athletic wing payers to go with them, though.

Beasley, and it's not even close. Choosing Love because of "defense" is laughable given his inability to protect the rim or defend anything more than a paper bag in the post. Any perceived difference in defensive abilities is much smaller than, say, offensive ability where Beasley absolutely destroys Love. Given the fact that Love has (finally!) made his way above 40% shooting, labeling players like Beasley, Mayo, etc. in comparison as "high volume shooters" is beyond stupid. I have no interest in using a top 3 pick on a player who would "be comfortable as the 5th option", but that's because I'm actually interested in getting better instead of stockpiling mediocre talent. Yea, that's what this team needs, more guys who just "blend in".

That's right though, I forgot that Love has all this great intelligence and intangibles. He's a winner, which is why he's dragging this team of cast-offs to the lottery, just like he took that bunch of scrubs from UCLA to the NCAA championship......

Beasley, without question. On the wolves he would be averaging over 20 ppg right now and he would be a better compliment to Jefferson than Love, assuming Jefferson is going to play center anywyays.

I have my love for Love, but Beasley just cannot be passed if theres that opportunity being presented.........Beasley would be a good boost to the poor Wolves Offense, altho i dont know if he plays D or not........

Man I couldnt imagine if we have Mayo/Roy backcourt now.......that'd be an instant playoff contender with Jefferson in the middle, ah.....

Beasley. He's a better scorer than Love and we desperately need a legitimate #2 scoring guy behind Big Al.

#2?

I think he could be the number one option on this team. Al Jefferson is a complementary player, not a franchise cornerstone.

Devilz - thanks for posting those numbers.

I'd have never known they were so comparable, if all I listened to was ESPN.
