4 Celts will make All Star team- predictions

Post#1 » by eitanr » Fri Dec 12, 2008 4:39 pm

The C's are setting record highs here and should be rewarded with 4 all stars. If Detroit got 4 all stars several years ago than how much more so does Boston deserve it?! You look at what each of the 4 big C's has done this season and it's hard to disagree.

The All Star game also comes down to voting for the starters and positioning for the reserves. That's why guys like Rasheed or Z, centers, and Rondo, a PG have a shot to make the squad. The coaches also reward winning which is why 4 C's may make it and someone as talented as Danny Granger may not.

East

PF K. Garnett/ C. Bosh
SF L. James/ P. Pierce
C D. Howard/ Z. Ilgauskas
SG D. Wade/ R. Allen/ J. Johnson
PG A. Iverson/ D. Harris/ R. Rondo

West

PF T. Duncan/ D. Nowitzki/ P. Gasol
SF A. Stoudemire/ C. Anthony
C Y. Ming/ A. Biendrins (Gasol not listed as a center)
SG K. Bryant/ B. Roy
PG C. Paul/ S. Nash/ C. Billups

The TNT guys acted like all of the Big 3 were now shoe-ins to make the game, but I'm not sure that we'll get more than 2. Ray got in because of someone's injury last year. However, he's playing much better this year, so maybe he could get on the team. Pierce on the other hand, has had a couple of bad weeks, and he's making his odds worse.

About your lineup, this year I actually think Ilgauskas gets voted in over Wallace by the coaches. With the Cavs having such a great record and Ilgauskas putting up big stats, he'd seem to be the favorite over Rasheed, who is having a pretty bad year.

I don't think so. I think Rip Hamilton or Vince Carter would get the nod ahead of Rondo. Which is perfectly fine with me. I don't think the C's should play in this game and let all the players that won't win a title this season play.

Well, I'm sure the players like the rest, but All-Star weekend must be awfully fun for them...plus, I'm sure they all appreciate at least being named to the All-Star team, whether or not they play. I think they're lying if they say it doesn't matter ;)

I can see KG and Pierce making it...not quite as certain about Ray or Rondo.

It's a travesty that that Piston team had 4 all stars in the first place, Detroit didn't deserve 4 then, and we don't deserve 4 now. Plain and simple.

With it looking like AI is getting voted in as a starter, I think it eliminates any possibility of Rondo making the all star team this year unless there are a few injuries. You have AI + Wade starting, then Joe Johnson, Devin Harris and Ray Allen probably the other guards making it in with Vince Carter also in the mix.

Anyway, it might be good for the team if Rondo doesn't make the all star team this year. It will provide him with more motivation, and he'll be cheaper to extend this offseason.

I ain't no AI-hater -- I've defended him for years -- but he doesn't deserve to be able to watch the game, let alone play in it. He's shooting about 13% as a Piston.

i know this is the celts' board but, does rayray really deserve it more than VC or granger?

i guess cuz he's on a better team...?

also, no jamison or c.butler? i think either would get the nod over rondo IMO

for the west, would Pau beat out Boozer? or Biedrins over Al Jefferson?

Pierce and Rondo are not shoe ins. I think Pierce has been off this year - and Rondo is inconsistent. I saw another "bad" Rondo game out of him tonight. Not to say he was AWFUL but not at his all-star level of play. He pissed away a few possesions near the half there such that they had Pierce take over the play making at one point.

I think if they make it will be they got boosted a bit by the C's record..

1) Yes, Ray is leading the NBA's best team in scoring.

2) C's are (22 and 2), the Pacers are (7 and 15), and the Nets are (11 and 10)

3) Wizards are the worst team in the East with (4 and 16)

I just don't see Rondo making the team. It's really too bad that Iverson will be on the team, otherwise he would atleast have a better shot.

Rondo's spot on the first all-star roster has to go to Granger or Vince Carter.

KG is a shoe-in.

Beyond that we don't have anyone who's in for sure. PP has the best chance of getting the vote, but that's looking unlikely and he has NOT been in top form this year and probably would not deserve to be selected.

Ray won't get the vote, while he might deserve it the guard spot in the East is very strong. Rondo has the same problem, too many good guards in the East (he might arguably be the 3rd best PG here, but in selections you go against ALL guards, not just PGs).

eh, I think Pierce + Ray will make it. AI/Wade/Lebron/KG/Howard are the starters. Then for the backups right now it's Harris/Johnson/Pierce/Bosh/Ilgauskas/Allen/Granger. Pierce went through a cold streak, but he is heating up now and he has had a lot of big shots so far this season. Ray Allen is the leading scorer on the team with the best record in the league and shooting close to 50/40/90. There are some guys who have better numbers then Pierce/Allen (namely Carter/Butler), but the fact that the Celtics are 22-2 is the trump card.

Ray is the BEST player (SO FAR this this year) on the BEST team in the game... he will be an All Star.

Anyhow, shoo-ins and near shoo-ins include

C Howard
F James, Garnett, Bosh
G Wade, Iverson, Johnson

The next three in highest likelihood are Ilgauskas (need both another Cav and another center), Pierce, and Ray.

The last two spots go to a fifth forward and a true PG -- Harris or Rondo. Harris gets it over Rondo. The fifth forward spot depends in part on whose team crawls and holds over .500

Shows the sad state of the English language that "shoe-in" has almost twice as many Google results as "shoo-in." (That being said, of course you're right.)

Kinda off-topic, but I've just realized/noticed that many "Superstar" athletes or even big guys take a charge often or at all.

2 of our guys do, Paul and Ray2, they've taken numerous charges. But from the likes of ballhog bryant, lebron, even our own KG, Perks, TD, et al. they don't take charges. Why do you think that is? Is it because they fear getting injured while taking one, or falling down? Hmmm .... That makes me respect Paul even more defensively. NBA Finals MVP.
