Dirk needs to start fouling more often

Post#1 » by JES12 » Sun Dec 14, 2008 2:59 am

Dirk with no defense on Durnat's dunk because of fear for 3rd foul.

Common Dirk...worst case scenario, you get your 6th foul in the 4th, we still have Bass & Williams.

Rick...if you are telling him not to foul, then Damp + Diop should = 48

You totally missed the point. Dirk has points right now, but it seems he let the Thunder score 54 on him. Either Dirk needs to appear like he is playing some sort of defense or Rick need to play centers to next to Dirk to make up for his total lack of defensive.

gotta agree with the diggler here.
you clearly overreact here JES. foul durant on his runaway dunk? then get a flagrant and maybe hurt the other player?

If you gut think I post that ofter only 1 play you are absolutely crazy.

Green schooled Dirk all day. Smith starteed to at the end as well. Dirk made obvious attempts to position his body in a manner that allowed maximum angle to score for the Thunder.

Yes, I posted it after that play after watching 10 or so moves like that. And he continues throughout the game. His total lack of defense proved that we need to have Diop and Damp taking those fouls if Rick does not want Dirk to get them.....AND Howard needs to come back ASAP to play defense on players like Green

So he scores 33 on the Spurs and that gives Dirk a green card to be a matador?

Paleeease. Give me a break!!! If it was only Green that schooled Dirk, that's one thing but Dirk allowed everyone to score on him.

All I'm saying is that if Rick plans on sitting Diop & Damp (our 12 fouls + defense), especially while Howard is out, then Dirk needs to play defense. Conversely, if Rick does not want Dirk attempting to play defense, then he needs to play those guys.

I think people are more reacting to the fact that you made a thread on this issue when Dirk was the one who won the game for us in the end.

His defense wasn't good in this particular game, but most of the times, he is an average defender (better than his reputation) who tries. And let's be honest, Terry' "defense" could use some help too. Good thing those two were hot and out-offensed their counterparts.

Anyways I'm always of the belief that there should always be a C out there with him.

thats pretty much summing it up.
we all know that dirks (and terry's) defense aint nothing special, but anytime dirk scores 46 points it dont matter that much what he does on the defensive end.
there are other players who can step up defensively.
It appears that you need something to disagree on but dont do it now after dirk had one of the better games of his career. how can he not be the PoG objectively?

I know you may not have had a feed in Italy and/or not at home at the time, but I posted this right in the middle of a Maverick shalacking by the worst team in the league. If we lost that game, this thread would have about 3 pages of people (who don't have the name "dirk" in their username) agreeing with me. And no, I'd much rather agree with everyone, but this one was painfully obvious and if the Thunder did not self-destruct (10-27 FG, 0-2 FT, 7 turnovers in the last 16 minutes) we would have lost. And much of that was WIDE OPEN jumpers and careless (unforced) turnovers.

To ppp000, at least we agree on the center thing. Personally, if we don't have one, maybe 2 all-defensive team players paring up with Dirk, then the amount of points Dirks scores is irrelivent; we will still lose. I'd much rather 10 players score 10 points each and all play defense than one person hogging all the shots (37% in this case) and not playing defense at all.

BTW, Dirk did not have to flagrant foul Durant. All he had to do was not make it so obvious that he was trying to get out of Durnat's way and help him make a contested dunk into an easy dunk.

Dirk should play more and better defense. There is no doubt about it. I was mad when i saw Collison scored easily against him.
