Mike D'antoni = Attention junky

Post#1 » by SUNSARETHEBEST » Sun Dec 14, 2008 8:02 am

I don't know if anyone else is noticing but what's this guys problem? An article came out a few days ago and D'antoni bashed the Suns and management acting like he had a "Me against the world" mentality. Also what a perfect time this came up, a few days before the Suns play the Knicks. I'm sure when a reporter asked him questions about the Suns, D'antoni could have easily said "I don't want to talk about it" but he very well knew those questions would cause controversey. What's so hard about D'antoni just sticking with the Knicks, he got a 24M deal and has a chance to coach Lebron in 2010 yet he still talks about "poor me" when he was coaching the Suns.

D'antoni just sat back and let Steve Nash run the show, Nash was basically the coach while D'antoni drew up a few plays here and there, if you watched the playoffs last year one time they showed the Suns bench and Nash was drawing up the play. Steve Nash should have won the coach of the year award by the way not D'antoni. Now this year people say Nash's numbers are down and it's because of D'antoni, well no if you notice when Nash runs everyones numbers go up. If Porter said, "Run Steve, run!" I'm sure Nash's numbers would be the same as if D'antoni was there.

But the nerve and ego of the guy saying he didn't have controll, D'antoni was the guy that signed Marcus Banks and Boris Diaw to those huge deals (close to 15M) that crippled the Suns salary cap situation for a few years. Yeah you can blame Sarver for selling picks but unless you're a Mark Cuban or Paul Allen who in there right mind would have payed Kurt Thomas 16M a year? Also when Kerr wanted to hire that defensive assistant, I mean seriously D'antoni was that stubborn to put his foot down and hire an out of work highschool basketball coach? (His brother).

I'm not saying Kerr and Sarver are right and D'antoni is wrong but D'antoni is making it seem like it's everyone elses fault but his and is looking for attention. I hope J-Rich drops 40 on the Knicks and D'antoni whines and cries to the refs like he always does...

end rant.../

EDIT: That word is inappropriate, so I switched it for 'junky' - tsherkin

In his defense, signing Diaw to under $10m after the effort he put up in the playoffs was a good call...I remember a lot of us were saying "no more than $50m over 5"...Diaw had/still does have potential to prove the doubters wrong...but I dont see it...

I do agree Diaw had a good season and playoff series but the Suns were not in a bidding war against other teams who wanted Diaw's services (as far as I can remember anyway). Amare was already signed to that huge contract and D'antoni went ahead and signed Diaw to a long term deal, D'antoni should have thought about if Amare comes back to even half strength where is Diaw going to get the playing time?

It's upsetting to know because of Diaw basically the Suns were over the luxury tax, I know people say Sarver shouldn't have traded Fernandez or that first rounder but he would have had to pay Kurt Thomas more than Amare Stoudemire if he didn't.

Diaw's salary was dictated by the signing of a Nugget player (can't remember who at moment).

At that point Nobody knew how Amare would emerge from a Microfacture surgery. I remember nearly everyone agreed on the signing of Diaw for that price on this board. Some even thought it was a "bargain" and that he was about to become an allstar.

Yeah the Diaw signing was a product of circumstances and everybody was HAPPY we did it at the time. Nobody could predict he would become the french tim thomas and sto caring about basketball (a lil exxagerated I know...but u get what I mean) after that.

It was the right thing to go at the time. Now it's very easy to say it was a mistake. Dealing Kurt Thomas ALONG WITH two UNCONDITIONAL 1st rounders was a mistake, and a HUGE one, also at the time. Now? it looks worse everyday.

Diaw had a really good season the year before. Diaw is the one who got his money and stopped caring. I don't blame the Suns or D'Antoni for that contract, sometimes you get fooled. It happens a lot in the NBA and MLB because of guaranteed contracts.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved
