Defensive stoppers

Post#1 » by Krush32 » Sun Dec 14, 2008 7:03 pm

Who are we going to use as our defensive stoppers? Diaw was our main body to put on the big athletic guys like Duncan, Dirk, Gasol, Garnett, but Amare and Shaq isn't gonna work. Robin Lopez has the physical abilities, but does not have the experience to match up with above average big men. He absolutely got ate up by Dwight Howard the other night.

Also, who is going to guard the quick scoring guards we face? Barbosa as our best perimeter defender is embarrassing. Jrich, and Barnes can defend on the perimeter well, but that makes horrible match up problems at the point guard. Thoughts?

No one is the answer to your question.

Absolutely no one.

Our best defenders are Hill(old and slowing), Barnes(gambles too much), Shaq(too slow), Amundson(energetic at least), and Fropez(can't get any calls).

Sucks, doesn't it?

Yes it does. Seems like whoever we face is gonna score 40 pts on us. The only thing Porter can do is play zone defense, then the shooters are wide open. Amare can't guard anyone cause he gets in foul trouble, Shaq is slow and has no energy, Amundson can't play offense, Fropez is too raw.

If we can get Pargo it would be a dream come true. Then we can ship Barbosa out for a big man like Jeff Foster, Ed Najera, etc. Please Santa Clause help us?

We sign Marbury, and trade Barbs for a defensive big + a decent backup wing. (Humphries + Parker?)

Diaw has not been a defensive stopper in a couple of years now. Remember that 3D nickname??? no one calls him that anymore. Bell was not stopping anyone this year anyways so it does not matter.

I don't think anyone cares about what Raja and Diaw USED to do; the point is, CURRENTLY we don't have anyone who can stop anyone, and that's something that needs to be addressed. This has nothing to do with the trade; this is a pressing need.

lakers got no defensive stopper as well. when they won against the spurs in the playoff, gasol stepped up defensively which is unexpected.

I think j rich will do a lot better job then most people think. I think are biggest problem is the back up (bigs) position. maybe we can lure mutombos old self over to the bright side.

Actions speak louder than words. He still commits dumb fouls when we need him on the court, and his off the ball defense is horrible. He is really bad at getting through screens, and ends up pushing with his arms to make up for it leading to more fouls.

JRich is a pretty good defender, but we need some that can come in and get a stop when we really need it. I'm talking about when we play Tony Parker, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and other teams with good guard play. We can't compete if these guys can do what ever they want the whole game.

I think you guys need to get Sean Williams. He may be a gamble but you know what... you're already gambling. If he works out, he may be a good fit next to Amare if he decides to stay past 2010, if he doesn't work out, at the very least he would be a good backup right?
