Re: JaVale McGee
Javale got yanked because he still hasn't improved his lateral acceleration. Any time Rasheed made a move sideways, Javale was off balance and couldn't recover quickly enough. He also has one of the poor lane agility time for a center which explains why rasheed was ripping him a new one. I think the scouting reports have identified his biggest weakness on defense and teams are attacking him. If he doesn't improve, he will be regarded very soon as a very poor one on one defender...great help defender. http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-pre-dra ... os=5&sort= He will never be able to guard dwight howard who has a lane agility of nearly second and half faster. 1.5 secs. Dwight howards agility, the man that javale will have to go head to head with in the future had a lane agility speed coming in of 11.21 vs javale 12.77. that's a recipe for disaster lol. Hope the wiz got a specialist working with him before and after practice because teams are already focusing on him.
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

Javale only played 3 minutes. That's not nearly enough time to prove or disprove anything...

Re: JaVale McGee
Javale looked pretty awful in those 4 minutes. They went to Rasheed almost every single time and he abused Javale. Rasheed had 8 points and 4 rebounds in the first quarter alone, most of the points while playing against Javale.
At this point, the scouting has been pretty much correct. Yes he has tantalizing potential, yes is incredibly long and can block almost any shot on the court. But he's definitely a piss-poor 1 on 1 defender.
What he's going to have to learn is technique, or physically improve his stature.

Dude's only what...20? He probably needs to add 20 pounds on his frame. It took Blatche 4 years to get into the body he's in now.

Aye slim, your constant ridiculous theories don't take into account one thing...experience. In other words, Detroit didn't go at JMac because of his lateral acceleration; they did so because he is a rookie. Once he learns how to play Rasheed then he'll KNOW how to play Rasheed!
For instance, if I took you out on the court, i'll fry you...not only because i'm prolly better than you, but also because you've never seen me play. I see why folks are putting you on ignore.

He'd also benefit by playing side by side with another big. Let 'Dray or Songalia bang the Howards of the world... and let him excel as a help defender.

Halcyon thats not fair to say IMO about his one-on-one defense its not horrible, he just needs to add weight. Not to mention while McGee guarded Rasheed he was 4-6, one was a transition three, two were fadeways with McGee all over him, and the other was a face-up j with McGee right on him. Yes he has struggled with getting backed down, but hes not horrible, Sheed would have made those shots on Haywood.

Re: JaVale McGee
if you can't slide you feet sideways..you can't be a good one on one defender. Javale had a horrible lane agility time from draft express and every play in which he has to guard a big driving...he is always getting beat and fouling. It happened on dwight howard, carlos boozer made him fall down because he couldn't stop his momentum to keep up with boozer..and all rasheed had to do was take a hard dribble mood to the right and mcgee has such poor lateral deacceleration that he couldn't respond..because his body was off balance while rasheed was rising into sky for an easy base line jumper. If we dont' get a specialist for him now, expect to see him abused for the rest of his career. His ability to move sideways really has nothing to do with his weight. 12.77 compared to dwights 11.12 shows that javale came into the league with poor lower leg strength and adding muscles won't help that. He needs a specialist to work with him...yesterday if the wizard management are smart.
I am pretty sure if Javale cared about his career he would take some of his salary and higher a specialist to help him ..but he doesn't make enought money yet for such extravagant expenditure...which is why the wizard would be wise to develop teh weakest part of his defense before its too late..since he will be competing against dwight howard for the next decade and half. I mproving his agility is definitely going to put stress on his knees and either build them up to respond quickly when he needs to move sideways..but more importantly he is still growing which is why wizard need to act quickly before his growth plates close.

Now I see why people put this guy on ignore. Good bye WizardDynasty. It is absolutely ridiculous reading your banter about lateral acceleration and how everyone on this team cannot move sideways. Seriously dude you live on a planet where the sky is green and the water is pink.

Re: JaVale McGee
one thing that annoys me of the basketball education our players are getting in camp is some coaches can pick up flaws right away. During the TNT broadcast someone maybe fratello, not sure but they referred to him as the csar was pointing out that someone in the coaching staff needs to tell Javale that he's allowed to use his forearm and perhaps more when he was being backed down instead of just holding his hands straight up in the air trying not to foul. If you watch songaila he does this. It annoys me that something basic like that is not being brough across. If i'm a big man in the NBA and thats my profession and I've excelled at different levels enough to get into the NBA I need to 1) know the rules b) if i don't know the rules be informed by the coaching staff how to adapt. There's alot of technique issues our youngsters have that need to be resolved. For instance i think Mcguire cocks the ball back too fast and when his elbow is fully bent he holds it there too long. But we have a shooting coach. I trust Hopla to offer instruction. I just felt that if Hopla has managed to teach numerous players how to shoot, some of our players should have got it down by now. I don't think Hoplas clinics take a year to learn. If they do money needs to be returned. If anything I think mechanics can be changed quickly and after that there will be an indefinite period of time before the results from that new motion. I had to change my mechanics at one point. My friend criticized how I brought the ball from low and brought the ball past the side of my face swinging it towards the middle so i had enough strength ( i was young) to get it in. He had gotten better at shooting than I had and I had been playing longer. I had to sacrifice and agree to the idea of possibly many months of a horrid shot while i tried to gel with my new mechanic that would be straight up the middle with a constant release point and more fluid. I sped it up by constantly shooting a ball at every practice. At home I'd lie down on my back and shoot the ball straight into the air. I don't think it's an impossible act to learn.
As much as I like Eddie and I appreciate him. The type of leader I want for my team is that kind who will profoundly positively affect our players abilities. I'm actually glad Javale's mom is in the audience because she's a student of the game and she's not a mom who knows nothing about it. She will arm and prepare her son to be on equal footing with Dwight and bynum. She will make sure he gets the coaching. She will demand accountability from the staff and from McGee. There's too much basketball surrounding her, too many legends she probably knows that she has the resources to find him whatever help he needs.
Currently he can time blocks and gets up pretty high. Suprisingly high for jump shooters who try to get a shot in his area. He can blow past most centers and he has a mini jump shot and we already see he's trying for a sky hook which with his dimensions is smart. Bynum's doing it too. Offensively he gets pushed around so he can't get easy opportunity put backs. Or can't utilize his athleticism as much because he's muscled out of his chances. Defensively he's terrible one on one. One part is technique. E.g Broadcaster pointed out the rule in NBA regarding use of the arm against a player backing you down. Weakness is another place where he's being abused. He's growing though and hasn't put on full strength. He's also not heavy enough giving up about 30-90 pounds. once that comes I think there's little that can be taken advantage of. If he can do those things, improve technique, Footwork, add weight and strength I believe he can be a dynamic center.

Re: JaVale McGee
Yes he does need to add weight, and it will help a bit. But if you've watched him against anybody with a lowpost game, he definitely has bad technique in the post. All he does his put his arms up straight in the air, making it a gimme foul when the offensive player goes right into him.GilArenas88 wrote:Halcyon thats not fair to say IMO about his one-on-one defense its not horrible, he just needs to add weight. Don't get me wrong, I've seen a lot of good from him. He's a great help-side defender and has really surprising moves in the post.

I hate that "role" Javale ´s playing right now, starting the game 4 nothing, cause he will gone, no matter what... Then he will open the 3rd, and will play fewer minutes... Well, you cannot develop a player giving him this treatment, i saw Araújo career going down, yes, he was a very good player at college, and im seeing this same old **** happening again with Javale...
So call speacilists are calling this kid a bust and those guys lives to perform a comment based by stats and only stats putting players in god likes mode or hell, not trying to see why...
Ahhh Jamison type of players doesent fill 4 this washington team, he really dont care about develop the young´s, he is just want to put his stats and maybe got trade 4 a team who is competing for a playoff spot...

Why not just leave him out there and have him learn? The Wiz aren't exactly championship contenders this year, what's the risk? He will get better that way.
I didn't watch this latest game but 4 minutes? Unless he got hurt that doesn't make sense to me. He doesn't have to play 35 minutes, but man at least give him 15 minutes.

Here's a hypothetical:
Let's say you are a sadistic coach who hates your rookie center. What would would be the best way to intentionally try to destroy his confidence?
I can't think of anything worse than to start him day after day and then pull him out of the ball game 2 minutes into each half after making his first mistake, and then sitting him for the rest of the half.

He's been doing that to McGee for the last two weeks now. It's bizarre and entirely inappropriate. Who starts a player consistently, and only gives him five-ten minutes/game? It's ridiculous. Especially for a young kid learning to play in the league.

Get used to it fellas, ETap is trying to secure himself the job going forward. There's no way he's gonna play the youngs for any stretch of time. It's unfortunate indeed.

if mcgee could stop fouling maybe he'd be out there longer. Not sure if anyone has told him the proper use of arms and body to defend the post when someone backs into him. NO wonder detroit just got him into the post on consecutive possessions.

Re: JaVale McGee
I think that javale is a banger. He loves to use his body weight when its an advantage to him. I have seen him ram his shoulder into smaller players to get better position. The problem with him and the reason why he dropped so low his because he really poor sideways movement. He is pretty horrible at shuffling his feet sideways.
I don't know if he is smart enough to figure out right now that his number one problem and aspect of his game that he should be working on his agility. I think that will determine if he becomes a superstar or not. If he could can his agility measurement to level of dwight howard, which is around 11.12. I know 11.12 is probably the best agility measurement at seven footer has ever had in the history of the nba.
Had his mom understood the value of agility in man to man defense and knew how to drills to improve his agility, then Javal would probably be the next D. Howard since they would be almost identical players.
I think the biggest problem is that Wizard Management fails to make this distinction to Java. The difference between Javale being a superstar like D. Howard..and a lowly unrespected rookie is the fact that everyone wrote him as having a very low ceiling for playing man to man defense. His score of 12.77 shows that he has never in his life worked on the muscles in his legs needed to make him a superior man to man defender.
Until someone with power in the wizard organization can force Javale to work night and day on his agiility timing--with the aim of getting close to dwight howard..===his true arch nemesis for his entire career----then Javale was a wasted pick.
If Javale does not improve his agility measurement substantially...clearly Java doesn't has not made this priority before coming to the nba to have superior agility...i project him to be a bust. He will never be a superior man on man defender out in his space, and he will never be avoid the charge when attempting his one on one moves against a above average man on man defender.
This is entire team does not place a huge priority on agility ever since Grunfeld has got here. Grunfeld it is a well established fact based on transanctions made by Grunfeld that he complete ignores agility. If the leader of this organization,---Grunfeld--doesn't highly value player with superior agility--then this same philosophy his duplicated into the coaches he selects.
So here the biggest problem facing the wizard's future and what will be the major point that keeps them from ever developing into a dynasty. Grunfeld, teh leader of this organization, select players with below average agility--and thinks that he uncovered a diamond in the rough. The players he selects are usually ignored by other teams..even though the show alot of offensive promise. In Grunfeld's mind, he thinks he has just made one of the greatest transanctions in GM history. What's wrong with Grunfeld's logic..--he would have made a great transanction IF he believed that he could transform this player below average agility into above average agility.
Now you ask yourself, how can WD be certain that Grunfeld doesn't have a system established to improve the poor agility of players that he has brought into the organization. the simple reason is this...none of hte players that grunfeld has brought here with poor agility...have significantly improved their agility. gilbert arenas--poor agility coming here--still poor agility--Jamison--poor agility coming here--still poor agility--caron bulter--poor agility coming here--still poor agility--songalia--poor agility..blah blah--deshaun stevenson--poor agility coming here--still poor agiliity--juan dixon--poor agility--still poor agility.
If he did believe that he could signficantly put them on an agility plan..it appears that they develop bad knees. Improving agility often puts tremendous stress on your knees and almost all of our poor defenders..seem to also have bad knees. Will java develop bad knees while trying to improve his agility...i have a huge inclination that he will. And this is formula--of selecting players with poor agility-- is what will has destroyed this organizations longterm growth.
Wizards will continue our path of mediocrity until we find a leader "GM" who can righly takes away points from a player for having below average agility. Our GM does not take the right number of points away and collecting over values offensive players with a poor ceiling for man to man defense after they are fully developed. Right now..Gilbert Arenas is fully developed has a rating of 99, yet his man to man defensive will always be below average. Jamison is given a rating of 99 since he is an allstar..yet his man to man defense is always going to always be below average.
CAron butler..a player with a 99 will always be a below average man to man defender because he has poor agility. these players have never demonstrated having even average agility at any time in their careers still thinks that he will be the one to magiclcally improve their man to man defensive ability. It appears that this will be the same case with Javale. He comes into the league scoring a very low agility and our GM sees his poor lane agility and thinks he can make Javale a great man to man defender. Did our GM once again take a gamble with our longterm future? Yes. Instead of developing a player with average or above average agility..he chooses a player with poor agility. Soon Javale will be fully developed..he may have an awesome jumper, catch alley hoops nearly every play, but when crunch times comes..teams know they can pick up a foul on Javale by exploiting his poor agility for the rest of his entire career.
This is what has happened with all of grunfeld's picks. When games is close and teams need a score, they know the inherent weakness of how this team is built and attack each poor defenders agility to get the line for an easy FT's. Gilbert's Entire salary is based on his ability to take advantage of defenders with poor agility. The problem is that teams are now getting pg's with above average agility and gilbert is getting shut down..aka delonte west of cavaliers. What force in the Wizard Organization can expose the terrible direction that OUr leader Grunfeld is taking this team longterm? Certainly not abe. Why would another team care about Grunfeld's poor decisions, if anything they are celebrating because they can count it as one 2 easy wins on their calendar and job security.
This team has only beat one team in the playoffs...that is the chicago bulls. A team with an anemic offense. The only reason they didn't beat the wizards is because they didn't have the personnel to take advantage of the this teams poor agility and the only remnants of GM jordan's defensive..Haywood and Jeffries negated what firepower they had. Our wonderful GM cripples this organizations longterm by releasing their only talented perimeter player..yet matching the contract of our backup center. Our GM is solely responsible for the devastating loss of moral and hope that we had when we thought the wizards would one day be contenders from Jordan's days. WE loved when Haywood was brought in to replace Jahidi White, We loved our jordan got rid of Juwan Howard's contract on mavs..even though he had to take etan thomas--etan was dallas mavs reject.
We all knew that Hamiliton was piss poor man on man defender which was why jordan traded him to the pistons. We loved how Jordan upgraded from C.Whit to T. Lue..and J. Dixon--Jordan continuesly attempted to bring in better man on man defenders. Bringing in B. Russel. That was how Jordan was building this team, he was building this team with players that had above average man to man defensive skills. GM grunfeld comes here and changes the philosophy completely. His philosophy was to completely ignore a players man on man defense..and over pay a player for being offensively talented. That is where we are today folks..and that's is why Javal more than likely will be a piss poor man to man defender for his entire career. He is a player with poor agility and i highly doubt his agility will improve...one bad knees.two..Wizards don't have a specialist that has successfully improve any of Grunfeld's poor man to man defenders.

Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

Umm...no. MJ traded Rip for Stackhouse because Stack was big enough to play the 3, allowing MJ one last hurrah at SG. If the Wizards wanted better defense, they would have traded for someone other than Jerry freaking Stackhouse.
