Brad Miller and Kenny Thomas for Shawn Marion Trade Idea

Post#1 » by sackings916 » Sun Dec 14, 2008 10:29 pm

Thread on the Heat board: http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=859719

Basically the Heat have put it on the table and its up to the Kings if they want to pull the trigger. Sounds like they're holding out for something better or for another team to up their offer.

I think Marion starts at PF for us. With Hawes at C and Thompson as the 1st big off the bench. He fits at PF as a garbage/hustle player with Salmons and Martin doing most of the scoring.

Hawes/Moore/Williams
Marion/Thompson
Salmons/Garcia/Greene
Martin/Jackson/Douby
Udrih/Brown

Its a good trade for the Kings if Petrie has something for the 09 offseason. Thoughts?

Reason: Removed "rumor" from title...any idea that traces back to Hoopsworld has a 99.999% chance of being garbage.

Kings better take that deal. Then they can cut Moore and have a ton of cap space next year.

I haven't read through the thread extensively, but if the only source for that is Hoopsworld, I'm not going to put much stock into it.

That was what I was thinking. We will see what comes of it

I have a question about this trade. If it was done, how soon could the Kings trade Marion? To me it would seem as if Marion's stock would be high at the dead line.

I would love to see Marion/Salmons/Martin together, but really, I don't believe the Kings can get Marion for Miller/Thomas.

Marion is an incredibly overrated stat whore and a cancer. I would only do the deal if it's Brad and Kenny Thomas for Marion.

The only source at this point does seem to be Hoopsworld - but it has been brought up as a rumor several times by more than 1 writer. I think there has been some talks there... I dont think anyone has said it will happen yet, but where there's smoke there's fire.

Man, I can't come to a conclusion on this one. Overall, I think that this is a good trade for the kings, and I think that it could be a potentially great one. Marion would not stay on the kings, nor really help them tremendously, but he is a solid player with a HUGE expiring contract. Sadly, I could see this deal being done, and us signing boozer in the offseason, which, IMO, is a terrible idea in the long run. IF we could find a third partner for this trade to send us a young point or SF, then that would be ideal. But I would have to take this trade at the end of the day.

agreed, marion would help out alot, atleast for this season with our defense and rebounding, and hawes could start at center which would be a big factor into doin this deal.

No, there's been speculation by other people. Big difference.

Gotta do it if true. I know the Kings have liked Marion for awhile, so this may not just be about the contract. I think if he comes he'd make a neat PF for the rest of the year. If he does well re-sign him, if he doesn't fit, let him go. Go after a trade or Boozer in the offseason.

Most importantly playing time for Jason and Hawes!!!

I'm not up for re-signing Marion regardless. That would be a big waste of cap space. We could get somebody that is much more fulfilling of our needs, and somebody that isn't already on the verge of starting a sharp decline.

+1, Marion has made it known to everyone that he wants the big $$$ this off season. Re-signing Marion would just take away time for JT next year, as well.

Marion would be here for the remainder of the season, that's it, just would be a matter of time

Plus he would create issues with minutes at the 3/4 or 4/3, or maybe basically just the 4. He would command minutes and not get benched.

Think the Heat can get better for Marion, anyway

I actually do believe the article in this case from hoopsworld.com if anyone remembers the heat last year as well as chicago both wanted b. miller "time"
what i get out of this is the fact they mention that the kings are unsure if they want to do this for a salary dump standpoint knowing they will unlikely be able to resign marion or if they are going to seek out more draft picks

I think its a great deal in terms of cap space even if we could not resign marion though i would love to see him in a kings uniform i am not saying the heat would need to add a draft pick but if they did consider this a done deal !

as for chicago they seem to me trying to move t. thomas & thabo alot lately from what i am reading but who's to say that is really true or not .

no matter how you slice it this is a fantastic deal in my opinion

i say do it petrie & levin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If this is the best the Heat can do for Marion they are better off to just let his contract expire. Miami can use the cap space next summer to possibly chase Boozer or save it for 2010.
