I thought the Jays do? Isn't AJ a type-A free agent?

No, they don't. Which is a bummer.. the Braves were active in the Burnett sweetpstakes. If A.J were to have taken the Braves deal, then the Jays would have recieved a 1st round pick as compensation.

CC"s rated as a higher FA so the Yank's first rounder goes to Milwaukee by default. We get their 2nd rounder I believe, as well as a sandwich pick

Remember JP decided the picks we would get in return for him leaving would be better than any return we got for trading AJ at the deadline

This is all bad news on paper, but there's certainly ways for it to go wrong. The Yankees did this before (2005 I believe) and didn't get the results they planned.

Finally some good news for the Jays. When I heard the Jays were offering 4 and 5 years, I was scared. I don't care about draft picks. AJ stinks and I'm glad he'll be on the Yanks. AJ is either injured, or when he does pitch, he's a .500 guy.

He gives up a lot of runs. He alternates between a great game and getting blown out. He's a $5M/yr pitcher at most. Great news. I'd rather lose 100 games than win 80 with AJ Burnett.
