Danny interested in Marbury

Post#1 » by cfan79 » Mon Dec 15, 2008 9:07 pm

Kefa461 wrote:ps.......Celtics boss Danny Ainge, according to the source, is legitimately interested in bringing Marbury on board because of his ability to handle pressure defenses – an area where backup Eddie House has struggled.

Marbury was an All-Star in 2001 and 2003 while with the New Jersey Nets and averaged 13.9 points and 4.7 assists in 24 games last season in New York. However, he has clashed with former coaches Larry Brown and Isiah Thomas since arriving in New York and hasn’t played a game for new coach Mike D’Antoni after losing the starting point guard job to Chris Duhon prior to the start of the season.

Ainge believes the locker room is strong enough – with veterans Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen – to handle the addition of the enigmatic Marbury.

Marbury is crazy. Really crazy. But if Danny thinks he can help us, I guess I am OK with it.

:x You know, the first time this rumor popped up, I brushed it off as just that, a rumor. But it's pretty much popping up every month. Where there's smoke, there's fire I guess. Kinda reminds me of how the rumor kept popping up of how Danny was trying to re-acquire Antoine a few years ago, despite his denials through the newspaper.

I'm not so much as concerned with how Marbury will affect the team as opposed to how Eddie will take it. You could tell he was upset after his PT disappeared last year to Cassell. But to do it 2 years in a row? That kinda sucks considering the energy and scoring he gives us every night.

I agree with Danny I think the locker room is way too mature to be effected by marbury and plus I think marbury will know this is his last chance and he'll keep his mouth shut.

Doc went out of his way this week to attribute Utah's success to their having their coach in place for so long, and the GM drafting players to the coach's system. Made me wonder if that's part of what he doesn't like about Pruitt, who really hasn't got a chance to play here for a second year in a row.

I think Doc doesn't give Pruitt minutes because he's a Veteran-Player coach. He doesn't want to teach young players when there are so many veterans in the league.

Has Marbury even been released yet? He will go West. I can see him going to the Lakers or Spurs.

I got a feeling that Marbury is auditioning for the open spot on the Lakers roster.

The Lakers may feel that they need an edge against the Celtics,
or just want to lock Marbury up,
if Marbury is bought out,
so he is not available as a bench scorer for the Celtics.

I guarantee you that the Celtics would hand Marbury Pruitt's spot on the active roster
should Marbury be willing to come on board.

The problem is that Marbury gave Isiah Thomas tons of sh*t when
Isiah asked Steph to come off the bench.

You know, the famous "I don't know how. I've never come off the bench before."

Plus, if you remember the Celtic-Knick game earlier this season,
Marbury, in street clothers, was taunting Eddie House by saying

"You're garbage. Get a life. You worry about basketball too much."

Eddie played great that game, by the way.

This could be a problem if Steph were brought on board,
he would probably insist that he get Eddie's time in advance,
which Doc would never do.

Lakers won with JR Ryder. Then again they ended up benching him. And Marbury unlike JR has too big of an ego to not protest despite having the chance to win a ring.

eddie has been playing well as of late and gabe was good tonight so I don't see the need for marbury. we need size more than we need marbury. I wonder if walker has anything left? he was a good offensive rebounder at one point and while he stuggles to score if he could rebound and defend he might help us. he would have a ver limited role and I'm not sure antoine could handle coming back to boston and not being the man, e's better than scal but scal knows our system better

I don't know, Marbury has lost where ever he's played, and right when he's traded-that team puts it together. I'd rather go with Pruitt and I don't even like Gabe until he proves something (I stopped giving young players the benefit of the doubt a while ago).

I would not have a problem if he becomes a Celtic. A huge boost to offense from the bench!

I don't think Marbury is that crazy. New York failed him like Minnesota did to KG. If KG hadn't been traded, you would have called him crazy.

You've answered the question right there, which is "why does no one in Boston want Marbury?"
It's still 17 to 11!!!!

All he did his first 3 years with the celts is teach young players!! So that goes out the window. He proved he can shoot the ball last night.

Getting Starbs would take care of 2 of our weaknesses:
1. Consistency off the bench and scoring
2. Handle the press

We could give Starbs a spot and back up pg duties. If he is playing well you can get shift him to the 2 and give Ray some rest.

I think we at least make an offer.

We should sign Starbury and Fatoine!!!

Imagine our record if we had those two professionals on this team.

I don't think Starbury would be bad per se, but I don't think he the type of guy who you should allow to piggy back for a ring. Stephon Marbury - World Champion, somethings just wrong with that.
