Can Goran Dragic become a two time MVP?

Post#1 » by SUNSARETHEBEST » Tue Dec 16, 2008 7:25 am

When Steve Nash came into the league people basically thought he was a bust like Dragic and if you remember at the Phoenix draft party the Nash pick was actually booed, he was playing backup behind Kevin Johnson and Jason Kidd and than a few years later he was traded and came out and become an all-star and eventually a two time NBA mvp.

Can the same happen for Dragic? I know people might think this is a joke saying a teenager from Slovenia can become a two time NBA mvp but if you watch videos of him playing, he was great driving to the lane, and on top of what Nash can't do, he can do sick dunks, he almost climbed on top of the rim in one of the clips that was one of the sickest dunks for a guy his size.

Kerr should think about sending him to the d-league and let him work his magic, so instead of calling him Tragic Dragic he can be called Magic Dragic.

If he goes to the d-league and is given the keys to run a team I can see him becoming more agressive and actually trying to do those sick dunks, no look passes and driving to the basket shots in the NBA.

Not to mention he's already a better defender than Steve Nash, if he can shoot like Steve Nash the guy is going to be great and he can probally win more than two MVP's.

Does anyone else think Dragic has a chance to become a MVP eventually?

Also if you can remember to vote for Goran Dragic for the 2009 NBA All-Star game!

(One of his many dunks...)

No.

Nash showed flashes his rookie year, and KJ said Nash pwned him in practice. Even MJ said Nash was going to be a good player after their first matchup.

No.

For one, he wasn't even dominating in the Euroleague or whatever league he played in over in Europe. Not to mention he was playing backup.

Two, other than decent court vision, he really has nothing else that would make him a particularly good player.

Three, if the best case scenario for Dragic is Beno Udrih, then yeah, end of conversation.

Well, maybe if he can learn to shoot like Nash.

Vote for Tragic in the All-Star game? Can we vote him off our team instead?

Seriously, I remember Ainge saying to his kids that Nash should be the person they look up to cos he was just putting in ridiculous amounts of hours on the court. He always had court-vision and shooting and he just got better and better at both.

That's the thing with Dragic. Usually when you assess raw talent they will have one or two elements you think are very good but they need to come up to speed on other things. I honestly couldn't tell you what elements of Dragic's game I think are his best. He seems low in every category.

Not good defensively. Not particularly quick for a PG. Not a good shooter. Not a good passer for a PG. No signature move. The list goes on. I'll be delighted to be proved wrong on him but I just don't see anything about him that makes me excited.

Even with Barbosa you could see he was hella-quick even if his bball iq was rock-bottom. And he was a serious project that prolly will never make it as a full-time PG. So if he was a project, I would say Dragic is an entire campaign to even turn into a back-up PG quite frankly.

And I'm not usually that harsh on PHX players particularly rookies.

Does anyone besides Chris Paul have the potential to become a 2-time MVP as a point guard right now? LOL

Please tell me your joking! NO way in hell he is going to be an MVP in this league. The kid is not showing any flashes of potential. Plus, I remember when nash was drafted and I don't remember him being boood. Maybe you are confusing it with Marley when he was picked.

Tragic was a 2nd rd pick man.

- As a Vancouverite and lifelong hoops fan, I remember that he was booed both in PHX and when he was traded to Dallas. He's commented on it and it's in his biography.
About the only people thrilled with Nash early on were his family and the rest of us ball junkies here on the south coast

Honestly, the 2x MVP was a perfect storm. Nash was at the top of his game running an run and gun offense then and got introduced into a system to maximize his talents (while having players who can finish). Taken that aside Nash is still a HoF PG, but it has nothing to do with the 'sick dunks' your dragic kid can do.

1. Work Ethic: Any pro player will take training seriously, but very few of them will take them into an everyday 24/7 thing to the level Nash has done. It's one thing to practice something your good at (be it shooting, passing etc..) it's another to constantly work on all your weaknesses - like how he is ambidextrous... So unless Dragic shows that level of commitment, he's not even going to be an above average player.

2. BBIQ: They keep saying you can't teach size, I keep saying you can't teach being ball smart. Don't get me wrong after 10+ years in the league even the most average scrubs will develop some form of intelligence on the court. Nash's has to be the smartest if not top 3 in the league in terms of BBIQ (which translates really well into his PG duties).

I'm not saying Dragic will not amount to anything. Let us see him work his ass off for another 5+ years before you even bring this type of argument up.
