Jerry's Pet Shop: 08-09 IJSPDs

Post#1 » by JDubJazz » Tue Dec 16, 2008 11:59 pm

No matter how you feel about Jerry, you have to admit that the man has his favorites, regardless of playing ability and fit. This seems like as good a place as any to discuss this years batch of IJSPD's. (Thats "Irrational Jerry Sloan Personnel Decisions" for those of you new to this board.) I've broken them down into three basic categories:

1. In the Dog House - Jerry's doghouse has had many illustrious occupants, from Chris Morris to Greg Ostertag to Gordan Giricek. This is the section for those players who skills warrant more playing time, but coach keeps them on the bench so that he can play inferior players.

2. Long Leashes - These are "Jerry's guys" and they can do no wrong. Missed layups do not matter. These guys should all carry a picture of Keith McLeod and Milt Palacio in their lockers.

3. Should be put down - Even Jerry realizes these guys have nothing to contribute.

So, with no further ado or guilding the lilly, here are the IJSPDs as they currently stand. Feel free to comment and add your own!

In the Dog House:

Kyle Korver - seriously? Ronnie Price instead of Kyle Korver?!? I think we should just start calling KK, "Giri" and get it over with. They way things are going, he'll opt out at the end of the season and flip Jerry the bird as he signs with the Lakers.
Kyrylo Fesenko - yeah, the dudes a goofball. He's not going to get any better riding the pine, though. Send him to the D-League already!

Long Leashes:

Matt Harpring - you've got to admit, nobody bricks layups with more panache!
Ronnie Price - Lets see, he can't shoot, can't run the offense, and he's a midget. Sounds like the ideal Jerry Sloan shooting guard!

Should be put down:

Jarron Collins - should change his name to "Filler," because thats exactly what he's gonna be when the Jazz get around to making a trade. At least he's an expiring contract.

^ Maybe NJN will create a Sloan - Korver = Championship sig.

I don't think Korver is in the dog house because usually players in the dog house "complain" about it. Korver's shooting hand is hurt and has been thus far this season, so, his effectiveness (shooting) isn't all that good right now. In other words, it's not such a bad thing that Sloan has taken him off the floor. Harp is barely playing so I don't get the long leash thing, and Price maybe plays one game, the next, a DNP-CD. I do think Fess is in the dog house, and rightfully so.

I think Jerry also found a nice way to keep AK kinda in the doghouse. At the very most AK plays 32 minutes in a game. No matter how well he's playing or how bad one of Brewer or CJ are playing, he doesn't get in the game until the 5 minute mark. But he does get pulled off if he's having a bad game. And that to me is just dumb, since AK is our best option at the 3.
