Do The Right Thing; Trade Odom.
Yes, I said it.
I love Odom. He is a tremendous asset for all that he brings. Unfortunately, he does not fit in with what the Lakers are trying to accomplish.
Tonight's game especially highlighted the fact that he is simply on the wrong team. The Triangle Offense is simply not for him. He is a true Cowboy, street baller, running and gunning -system type guy.
Kobe and Odom are not a good match; one is half court, one plays full court.
Riley and Wade love Odom, Odom loves them and the city of Miami. They already have a history together, a very positive one. Wade and Odom have proven to be great compliments to eachother's games.
I Propose....
Forwards: Odom + Radman + 2nd round draft pick
for
Forwards: Marion + Haslem
This is good for the Lakers because they get a SF/PF in Marion that can truly excel with the bench mob. If they insert him at SF with the starters his offense will suffer, however, the defensive intensity will definitely go up. Marion is not as versatile as Odom on offense. BUT! He is definitely more versatile on defense...he can guard all 5 positions.
Secondly, Haslem is a major pick up for the Lakers as well. He is a true garbage man and a banger. He is a big body who can defend, rebound, and reliably hit the J from mid range.
Basically, Lakers lose some offense...but they definitely get a lot more defense back. IMO, enough to make up for the loss of O.
For the Heat its good because they get Odom, a great chemistry addition and fit with their team. His salary is expiring soon, however, he is not greedy and will probably re-sign for about what he makes now...if he's happy. I'm sure he'll be happy in Miami.
The Heat might seem like they are getting screwed a little in this deal by giiving up Haslem for Radman. However, Marion's value is very low right now. His contract is expiring soon and he very well may walk away for nothing. Getting Odom is pretty good.
The trade works in the checker.

Would the Heat trade Haslem AND take Vlad?

Odom for Marion does not work straight up due to Salary matching, Marion makes more.
Vlad is probably the deal breaker. His contract runs too long...Miami is trying to shed salary for FA signings of 09 and '10.

Re: Do The Right Thing; Trade Odom to Miami.
that trade makes zero sense for the heat. what would they want odom for? they already have the pf position set with michael beasley. they'd have to want to play odom at sf, which marion is better at. if odom could play sf, this thread wouldn't be needed. thats not even taking into account the awful addtion of haslem for vlad.

Haslem might be a deal breaker as well, though that might have just been in years past...but didn't you just answer your own question?

No way the Heat take on Vlad and give up Haslem
Besides, Marion is expiring and will in no way settle for a substantial paycut meaning he will be gone after this year and we would have lost odom for essentially nothing.

Darn. You're right. I guess Odom for Marion isn't a good trade as earlier structured.
Who else could the Lakers deal Odom for?
Wallace? That it?

Mike Miller
Shane Battier
Stephen Jackson
Tay Prince
Nocioni with Hinrich for Farmar & LO come to mind.
How many of these guys are available is another question.

Prince is the only one of that list that makes me all tingly inside. Trading him for Odom would be a dream come true!

Re: Do The Right Thing; Trade Odom to Miami.
Billups was perfect for our needs...
I like Hinrich a lot, but we can't trade him for Farmar now that's injured.
Battier or Prince, could be great. Battier also close friend of Gasol. Both can hit the trey and both are defensive-team oriented players.
We don't need Mike Miller. He's more of a sg than Sf, and he's not good defender. We got Kobe and Vujacic already.
Stephen Jackson looks good, but I don't trust him. Will he demand too much ball? is he a gangsta-kind of player ala Stephon Marbury?.

I think Tay would be a great addition as well. The guy can defend with his usual long arms lol jk. and rebounding skills. The D we need.
But i don't think the heats would bite with LO +Vlad. They look like they're giving up too much with the way our guys are playing these days. ..

Guys the best desicion is to just let Odom walk because we would be better off finnically rather than to add more salary on the team.

Billups would of been huge, but there's another all-star caliber guard that's going to be available now.

Re: Do The Right Thing; Trade Odom.
I agree about trading Odom, the ironic thing is we're saying how after tonight it's obvious. Yet on NBA.com the headline for last night's game is
"Odom's Versatility Keys Lakers Victory" With Pau Gasol out sick, Lamar Odom filled the void. Odom had 17 points in L.A.'s comeback win over the Knicks.

Re: Do The Right Thing; Trade Odom.
If we trade Lamar we better get a PF in return or else we'd be relying on Powell/Mihm to play more minutes... One of our biggest strengths is the ability to play 2 of Odom/Gasol/Bynum at all times...
I would love to get a Haslem or David Lee type player for him, but how realistic is that?

I think Odom is perfect for you guys.
Marion is the one you guys would not like .
