Andres Nocioni

Post#1 » by Flite » Wed Dec 17, 2008 11:27 pm

I proposed this trade in a Bulls thread to help us address our 2010 issue (moving the contracts of Andres Nocioni and Kirk Hinrich)

That leaves the Jazz, who I feel are the best option. At SF they have Andrei Kirilenko and Matt Harpring - two somewhat offensively challenged, defensive specialists. AK47 and Noc is a good mix off offence and defence, inside and outside. I think it makes sense for the Jazz to make a move for Noc to add another target for Deron Williams from deep, to help them on their run at a championship. Harpring has lost his spot in the rotation recently, having his minutes halved... it's obvious he isn't needed there. The good thing about this is that with a GM like Pax who is seemingly against making a pure financial trade, Matt Harpring has been pretty good in seasons past and can help out with our perimeter defence, which has been a little sloppy. He's a Pax type of guy - hard working and humble. Over the last 5 years he has essentially had the same statistical output as Noc's career - year for year.

So with that said, I propose:

Andres Nocioni for Matt Harpring and Jarron Collins

Harpring expires in 2010 and will leave us an extra $6.5M in capspace, while possibly being able to actually contribute. Collins is used as a filler and left to expire this season to clear a further $2M.

Fair trade for both teams, and makes sense for both teams.

With that said, would you guys do it?

You do realize CJ Miles is our starting SF?

A) Harpring isn't that great of a outside defender.
B) He has been hurt.
C) Jazz need to shed salary.
D) That leaves us too thin for my liking at the PF/C

Ak doesn't really need to score. He has been doing a lot better as of late. As of right now, I wouldn't do that trade. Thanks for not putting Hinrich in though. Maybe something centered more around Ak and Noc would work but that wouldn't give you your 2010 cap space.

He'd be better than Noc, but at the end of the day this is a financial move.

B) He has been hurt.

He doesn't figure to be in rotation after the trade, so this doesn't bother me too much.

C) Jazz need to shed salary.

For which offseason? If it's for this one, the Jazz actually end up paying a little less than they would with Collins and Harpring.

That leaves us too thin for my liking at the PF/C

The Bulls could throw in a young PF/C in Cedric Simmons (former lottery pick) who simply hasn't had a chance behind Tyrus, Drew, Joakim and Aaron. If he doesn't fill his role as well as you want, the Jazz can use their team option to cut the contract short, making him a $1.7M expiring for this offseason.

You do realize CJ Miles is our starting SF?

My bad, but if AK is seeing more time at PF - with the emergance of Paul Millsap and the return of Carlos Boozer, wont that push him back as a full time SF?

If a Andres Nocioni + Cedric Simmons for Matt Harpring + Jarron Collins deal went through, you could be looking at:

C - Mehmet Okur | Kosta Kuofos | Kyrylo Fesenko
PF - Carlos Boozer | Paul Millsap | Cedric Simmons
SF - Andrei Kirilenko | Andres Nocioni | Kyle Korver
SG - Ronnie Brewer | C.J. Miles | Morris Almond
PG - Deron Williams | Ronnie Price | Brevin Knight

Pretty solid looking rotation.

Our PF rotation

Boozer | Millsap |

Simmons would see about as much court as Fesenko.

I just threw him in because the other poster said that you guys may be a little thin upfront if this trade was to go through.

No, thanks. Noc is an upgrade over Harp, but our cap situation would be even worse. No reason for the Jazz to do this. And Harp is NOT a defensive specialist.

Oh well... looks like Utah isn't as good a destination as I thought.

Thanks for the opinions.

Wow! If Harpring is an upgrade at perimeter over Noc, I really don't want Noc.

Defensively. Noc is terrible defensively. He tries, but that just makes it look worse.

You're basically describing Harpring.
